The mega-rich Mexican family which has bankrolled Sergio Perez's motorsport career has been left baffled by the constant speculation over his Formula 1 future.
The Mexican is a multi-race-winner with Red Bull but has also faced regular scrutiny over his position. He has been under more pressure than ever this season, as a result of what Perez himself admits has been "a terrible year".
But, as it stands, Perez still has his seat alongside Max Verstappen and also has a contract for the 2025 season. Team principal Christian Horner reminded everyone of that as he fielded more questions over the Mexican's future in his homeland this weekend.
Carlos Slim Domit, whose father - also named Carlos - was the world's wealthiest man in 2013, has helped to finance Perez's entire motorsport career and is a significant sponsor for Red Bull as a result of the 34-year-old's presence in their driver line-up.
According to Forbes, Carlos Slim Snr and his family remain 19th on the global rich list. And, speaking about the speculation that Red Bull could show Perez the door, Carlos Jnr expressed confusion that the man he sponsors has been the subject of so many rumours.
He said: "I think he has made it clear, I do not understand why there are so many doubts [over Perez's future]. He has a contract, he has made that clear. Christian confirmed it.""

Slim's money likely also contributes in footing Verstappen's multi-million wages. End of discussion, except if Red Bull considers that it can do without Slim's sponsor money.

Possibly there will be marketing yadda-yadda after Abu Dhabi 2024 about Perez being properly prepared on all levels for a 'reset' for 2025, starting with a 'clean sheet', 'better and bolder', 'comeback', and so on. If that happens, Slim's sponsor money convinced Red Bull to turn a blind eye on Perez's consistent subpar performance since the Imola 2024 race, substantially compromising 2024 WCC title chances.

Between Lawson and Colapinto...I would take Colapinto just purely based on the South American connection and Colapinto has slightly more experience than Lawson at this point in F1. Don't forget Lawson also gave the middle finger previously..Which shows some level of 'maturity/immaturity' Lawson is at, at this point.

I would indeed make that incident part of the equation.

When a real top gun fighter pilot was asked whether to prefer a 'Rooster' or a (technically superior) 'Hangman' type of pilot to go on a mission, he confirmed his preference for 'Rooster'.

Not suggesting that Lawson is technically superior compared to Colapinto, but you catch my drift.
