Winter Wheel Sanity Check

Hey everybody, this is going to be my first time getting another set of wheels specifically for the winter and wanted to do a sanity check before pulling the trigger.

I’m currently running the factory staggered 255/35/19 and 225/40/19. What are your thoughts / experience with using a square set up on 225/45/18 vredstein wintrac pro?

Should I go wider? Stick with 19s? Another brand?

Feel free to add your setup / pics for future reference.

Haven't done much winter driving yet, but this (225/45/18 vredstein wintrac pro) is my exact winter setup. As for going wider, narrower is actually better for snow. So I would (and did) stay with the OEM size.

I had Wintrac Pros on my 86 and loved them, so I went with them on my 230.

I run 245/40/19.

You can get that extra sidewall without dropping wheel size.

Also you are not in snow country so don't get snow tires that's insane for dmv. I run pirelli cinturato weatheractive, but you could also just run psas4 in your area... they are serviceable in the snow.

I run 225/45/18, Michelin X Ice Snow. No issues to report after 1 full winter last year. The only thing you'll notice is if doing any aggressive maneuvering, you'll feel the squish of the tires, it can be a little alarming at highway speeds.

Lol... snow in the dmv? Unless you are going to drive north to get to snow, I would just get some all seasons. Full winter tires are overkill in this area 99.9% of the time.

You all make a good point. All seasons sound like the practical choice.

I have my winter wheels on my oem wheels (I have ztk package). So I’m going with Michelin alpin pa4. Pretty decent traction. 245/35/19 front and 255/35/19 rear. Could probably go up to 275 in the rear but it’s winter wheel so I don’t see a point.

When my oem summer ps4s wears out tho I think I might go wider on the rear. (I have vs5rs apex wheels)

I am running this exact setup, ztk wheels with PA4 in stock sizes. Handle great on dry, wet and icy road but not sure yet about deep snow, will see in a couple of weeks.
