I put down 1000$ a few months ago when I ordered the car, now it’s almost time to pickup and I was wondering, does that deposit come back to you when you pickup or does it come out of the cost?

Or is that just an extra charge to order a custom new car?

It comes off the MSRP, it is a deposit not a fee.

The F&I manager when you are in the cage should ask you what you want done with the deposit.

It could be:

Returned to you via check or credit/debit card refund if you are not putting any money down.

Treated as a down payment at time of sale reducing the amount of money that must be financed or paid for is buying the car outright.

Always, always double check the F&I manager's numbers. The internet is full of people who end up having to go back to the dealership because someone added something up incorrectly, or didn't apply something that should have been included.

I concur (as an F&I manager) -- trust but verify that the figures match what you agreed to pre-delivery. Any number of errors or changes can occur during 'desking,' so take a moment to check the numbers.

And yes, deposits are normally deducted from the cash due, amount financed, or capitalized cost.
