Has anyone tuned their 230i xdrive yet? I’ve been very pleased with the engine’s performance but saw that RaceChip makes a seemingly solid product (see screenshot). I see myself keeping my 230i for another 2 years and then trading in for another BMW, which adds to the appeal of this product since they offer a one-time reprogramming service if you change cars, so this is really a 2 for 1 purchase. The thought of 20% more power sounds absolutely perfect for this car, but I’ve got hesitation with tuning.

Big concern in general would be how a tune would impact resale value for me? I’m obviously still under warranty (which I recognize will go out the window) but don’t know if that would also knock $5000 off my resale value. If so, then this obviously isn’t a $600 part but a $5600 part.

The tune does not affect the value of the car as you can remove it before selling the car and no one will know its ever been on.

Yeah good points about removing it, which is what I would do and then install it on my replacement car. However, would I need to continuously remove it before every visit to the dealership? I’d be trading my car in to my local BMW dealership, so if they knew I’d ran it with a tune, that would obviously hurt resale.

I guess my question is, can a dealership look into the cars computer history to detect it had been tuned?

I don't know, and it does not matter. The dealership does not care about any of your mods unless you break something and ask them to fix it for free.

For the last 10 years, all my cars have been leased. They are all full builds. I worked with 4 different dealerships and never had any issues with any of them.

Once the lease is over, i remove the mods and take the car back.

So to answer your question, no you dont have to remove your tune before your dealership visit.

You don’t have to take it out for each visit but be assured, BMW will know it’s been fitted *if* they look into the data.

Figure I'll revive this thread rather than starting a new one.

I'm interested in giving my 2024 230i a little boost and am trying to decide between a lower end Dinan Sport Tuner or going with a JB4.

I do have some experience with the Dinan Sport and JB4 on my old E84 X1. I started with the Dinan, but at that time upgrading to the JB4 made sense as I was tracking (HPDE) the X1 with NASA RM on a regular basis. I do plan on taking the 230 out to the track (probably twice to hit both High Plains Raceway and Pueblo here in Colorado) once each, but do not plan on getting back into this regularly.

So with limited tracking and less than 5K miles a year, this makes me question if I should bother with the JB4. If I don't go with the JB4, I would opt for the Dinan over the JB+ as I prefer the ease of the app for switching settings.

While the Dinan is less expensive than the JB4, this is really not a factor. I've got no problem spending more if it is the right solution.

So I would love to hear any thoughts you guys may have on what you think you would do. Again, keep in mind this is a B48 that I will only run on 91 ocatane (what premium is in Colorado) and I'm just looking to make it a little more fun and capable

This is my experience with the race chip. Yes, it gives you a boost however on the track coming out of turns I noticed more power but at the end of the straight I lost speed. I am presuming the ECU adjusted the boost the race chip gave it. Also, my car has no engine mods so that might be why the ECU detuned.
