ZB M2 CF installed part pics

Hi all!

I installed the following and figured I’d share how it looks in case people were curious. All of these I DIYed and will describe how difficult or easy each was as well as my total price for each:
  1. Autotecknic OEM-Style CF Mirror Caps: $375 total on a holiday discount
  2. BMW M-Performance CF Spoiler for G87/G42: $515 total on holiday discount
  3. BMW M-Performance G87 CF Diffuser: $1078 total

I don’t regret splurging for either M-Performance part at all FWIW.

The mirror caps took me the longest time to figure out a good solution. I ended up using a wide plastic pry tool wrapped in a microfiber cloth to pry the bottom of each mirror while the mirror was pointed as upward as possible. A bit of pressure and it pops off but is still connected by a wire. That gives your hand access to the clips holding most of the mirror cap in. Find a video that does that version of the mirror cap install process instead of the one that tells you to try to do it without popping off the mirrors. I had to troubleshoot one and did the process 5x on the driver side with no problems and made my life easy.

The spoiler was surprisingly easy. I thought it’d take me 4-6 hours based on videos I watched but with my tools it took me 2 hours start to finish. I used a cheap but decent heat gun to heat up the original spoiler and adhesive and spent a good amount of time making sure at least half of it was warm enough. Then I took a plastic pry tool with a flat angled side and pried off the edge of the spoiler. Put fishing line in there and sawed away. Repeated as needed then used a 3M eraser wheel attached to a drill to get rid of the remaining residue. Cleaned up with goo gone, then detailer cleaning spray, then alcohol wipes. Put 3M 5952 VHB 2 sided tape on the M-Performance spoiler and voila! 2 hours.

The M-Performance diffuser is the easiest. It’s all plastic clips. The tough ones are the ones on the bottom between the exhausts. You need a plastic pry tool with a slim and flat tip similar to a flat head screwdriver to easily get those types of clips unseated. But a little review of how the clips work if you look and you’ll see what I mean.

Pics for all the end results below!!

Good work. The first pic without the spoiler makes the car look naked lol. This car def needs a spoiler…at least from that angle.

Thanks! And totally agreed, the back of this car looks so different, especially from a profile view where the bumper stuck out so much further than the trunk without a bigger spoiler there.

I had a problem with the drivers side mirror cap fitment and no matter what I did it didn’t fit correctly below the lighting piece. I attached a pic below to show what I mean. I’m pretty OCD so this stuff bothers me and I probably lost sleep thinking about it. So here’s the good news: their customer service is great. I sent a dozen pictures and described attempting to reinstall it 4-5 times to ensure it was a defect and they’re now in the process of mailing me a new one after they test it out on a G8X before mailing. And I don’t have to ship the defective one back! Happy with this outcome so long as I get the corrected piece soon.

I have purchased several CF exterior bits...except the mirror caps because of this. I just know me, being inexperienced, would somehow did it wrong, break something, or it not fit right and it would drive me mad.

If the replacement still doesn't fit right I'm honestly just going to save up and spend the stupid amount on the actual OEM CF ones because I'm in the same boat as you with wanting it perfect haha.

That said, the install process itself was easier than I thought it was going to be once I figured out how to pop the mirror off its mount to get to the clips behind it.

I was kind of thinking the same. At least with the replacement they confirmed they're fitting it to a LHD G8X car to validate it fits (and their HQ is in California so I expect they'll have the right model there lol)

Update on mirror cap: they said the batch was actually defective so I’ll be getting a new one from a new batch in early January
