Wink RonJohnCo 2025 SGM M2 Build/Progress Thread

I've never made a thread like this before, but I thought that it would have been valuable to document and share the process I went through with my last 2023 G87. I was very excited throughout the process and didn't do enough to really document it.

For those of you who don't know, I had a 2023 BSM M2 that was modified to 780whp on kill and was very fast. I was racing the car and working over the course of a few months through small issues and changes to get the car dialed so we could try to go deep into the 9s.

Just as we got the car to start really launching properly, there as a massive flood that destroyed all three of my cars. The M2 was a total loss and I have to now start over.

I'll be documenting this process and the process of racing on my Youtube channel @RonJohnCo. I have quite a few videos with my old car if you want to go check some of them out.

Now that we're starting over, I decided to go all out and spec the car without holding back. Initially I wanted to get the car in Skyscraper Grey, but it wasn't available so I settled with BSM. This time, I got what I wanted and spec'd the car in Skyscraper Grey Metallic.

As for options, I kept it pretty basic and went crazy with alcantara and carbon fiber.

Going through the options, I started with the Lighting Package. Love the LED lights. I also added the Shadowline Lights option.

Why no carbon package? I added everything the carbon package has to the build except for the M Driver's Package. I don't need that as I wasn't able to make it to SC last time around, and tuning the car removes the top speed limited. $2,500 for something that's useless to me.

I didn't have buckets on my last car and it was a huge regret. I ordered those along with the alcantra steering wheel and the CF trim for the interior. Also added the CF roof.

I didn't do the Live Cockpit Pro with the HUD this time. It was a gadget to me and I was looking through it 99% of the time. I can see how some of you like it, but I'd rather have $1,000 in CF.

I added the Wireless Charger because I was under the incorrect impression that you needed that option to get the NFC reader to use the Digital Key. Whoops. Good thing it was only $200. I also added Remote Start for $200 because it's a godsend when it's cold out.

Red brakes because I feel as though most BMWs have grey and blue brakes. Could be wrong, but let me think it.

As you can see, as a base car, I didn't go too crazy. Where I did go crazy is with port installed options.

I added:
  • M Performancs Suspension
  • M Performace Dive Planes
  • Carbon Fiber Deck Spoiler
  • Carbon Fiber Diffuser
  • Carbon Fiber Exhaust Tips
  • Carbon Fiber Door Sills
  • Carbon Fiber Gas Cap Cover
  • M Performance Alcantara Center Arm Rest
  • Floating Center Caps

As for the timing of this build, I first went to the dealer on the day of the flood, 8/19. That day they had no open allocations and I didn't want to leave a deposit unless the allocation could be secured. I went back that Saturday, 8/24, and they had an open allocation which immediately went to Order Received.
  • Order Received 111 8/24/24
  • Scheduled for Production 112 9/10/24
  • Production Begins 150 9/19/24
  • Exterior body assembly begins 151 10/1/24
  • In the paint booth 152 10/1/24
  • Entering Assembly Line 153 10/1/24
  • Assembly in progress 154 10/2/24
  • Quality Check 155 10/2/24
  • Final assembly 160 10/3/24
  • Ready For Transport 165 10/18/24
  • Awaiting carrier assignment 180 10/30/24
  • Dispatched from factory 181 10/30/24
  • At The Port 193 10/30/24
  • In Transit 195 10/30/24
  • At The Port 193 11/10/24
  • In Transit 195 ???
  • At the Dealership 198 ???
  • Vehicle Delivered ???
I'm still waiting for the car, but I'll update the original timeline as it continues to move through stages.

I also have ordered quite a few things from @IND-Distribution to get us started. I love going for an OEM+ look, and I think the things I've assembled so far will get is there right away. After that, we can start planning our power mods. I did however, make an order from Active Autowerke. I do these things in stages generally. I would call this the "Mild" stage of the build.

Stay tuned for updates on the mod progress and the racing progress if you're interested!

After what happened this is great! Good to see you bounce back. You will be the first to own both iterations of this car. Can't wait to hear your impressions on the "upgraded" M2. Stock for stock is it faster?? LOL! Will you like the new wheel?? Can't even front I'm jealous! They are going to charge an arm and a leg for that flat bottom wheel on the aftermarket. I'm already plotting on getting that flat bottom wheel for my car, but the carbon weave may be a little different. My car is a manual, and it may not work. The LCI interior looks even more focused and special. Can't wait to see it. They may have even upgraded the LCI carbon. I have carbon interior. LCI carbon looks slightly different.
