Skyline drive and Blue Ridge Parkway.
Currently in the middle of a road trip including Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway. Sitting here at Peaks of Otter lodge enjoying some wine and views from my room. Thought I would pull photos of the camera and start posting them.
I had hoped that going during the week would minimize traffic, and I was right. And what traffic there was, most of them moved aside at pull offs to let "spirited" drivers go by. It was really cool. The last few miles to the lodge I came up on 4 bikers (motor type) and they're also staying at the lodge. One of them asked me "How fast were you going to catch up to us? There was no one behind us and we were going pretty quick, then bam, there you were." I said "fast enough." For a car that isn't any fun. Anyway, it was a rainy and foggy day so not many photos of anything. Besides, I'm sure views of green woods look the same eventually. The journey begins. JECX0311 by JustinC's Photos, on Flickr The deer did not seem to be afraid of cars or people here. I saw many along the road just looking as I went by. This one was in the middle of the road. I pulled up, gave a toot of the horn, it stepped off to the side, allowed me to take a photo, and as I pulled away I saw her step back into the middle of the road. Do rte 43 off the parkway into Buchanan YW a total blast
It’s 50 mph, impossible to patrol and big elevation change. It was a highlight of my nj to LA road-trip. Last edited by ourlee; 06-12-2023 at 08:24 PM.. |

Finished the BRP yesterday, then 10 hours back home today from Cherokee NC. Took 441 (I think) up to Tennessee first.
Focused on driving, didn't stop to take many pics. Just over 2000 miles! It was a fantastic drive through beautiful country. Maybe I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but I still don't understand what those that say "isolated" and "no fun" mean. She was driven hard the entire way, including the way home. JBV1 + Uniden R8 make it easy to scoot. Anyway, here's what photos I did take. A beautiful day compared to the first! Great pics! I hope to take some nice trips like that soon in my just-received G87.
In your "suggestions" thread, I was going to suggest some roads from the end of the parkway to "Bourbon Country", including Deal's Gap (or "Tail of the Dragon" as it is commonly known now). But, looks like I'm a little late to the party and you did it on your own (or didn't)... |
