the level of IR shouldn’t affect the darkness but i think i does for some reason. i was comparing my Defender and my wife’s Range all at 20% and they are significantly lighter than my m2. more big windows but literally my 20% looks like 15%.
just be careful if you haven’t tinted yet and not looking for something that dark. i would say 20-25 is too dark |

Interior color makes a difference especially with a non-tinted windshield letting more light in and reflecting it back off a light colored interior. You can usually go darker with a light interior.

Still debating adding tint. I plan on keeping this car as long as absolutely possible… 20+ years if possible and am worried tint will degrade overtime and might destroy the rear defroster glass if removed/replaced way down the road.

Go with a known brand of film that is highly regarded, and an installer that is also highly regarded. Amount of total solar exposure factors into longevity, so where you live (Minneapolis vs Tucson) and where the vehicle spends its time (always parked outside vs garaged whenever not in use) will influence. Bottom line, don't skimp and get good stuff that has a strong warranty.

I’m at 35% all around with nothing on windshield. And every time I look at it I want to drop the car at least a half inch but I know I’ll scrape leaving my own driveway every time lol

I didn't get a choice. Dealer tinted my car without asking. It showed up and it was done. At least they didn’t charge me for it.
They did SunTek 30% on side and rear. |

It's funny to me that this is the only car I've owned where i didn't want to tint it. My F87C was at 20% all the way around (minus the windshield of course).
I didn't want to tint it because 1. I didn't want anyone messing with the windows, spraying stuff on the doors, the seats, the screens by accident. 2. Didn't want any potential rattles with parts of the door taken off or peeled back. 3. Feel like the interior is special and needs to be seen to be appreciated (carbon buckets). 4. Maybe I'm just getting older but I feel like tint really isn't my thing any more. It kind of cheapens the car. Maybe it's because all of my previous cars were tinted and substantially less expensive. Like you hardly see a GT3/GT4 or really any high end car with tint these days. I'll tint my DD but I think the G87 stays fishbowl.
