To eliminate the cable as the culprit i would try this one.

Edit: or the other monoprice one. Good brand!

This one works perfect for me. I love the extra length (that’s what she said.)

I actually got this first and it didn't work so I tried the other brand that I posted. I'm wondering if somehow it's the laptop that's causing the problem... But if the other cords work, and a couple USB sticks work, it's GOTTA be the cable right?

I like the idea above of using a USB 3 USBa m-f extender. The issue with long cables is USB voltage is too low, I believe usb3, if the port on the laptop is also USB 3, will be better in this regard.

Back in the day I remember using powered USB cables for DSLR to avoid this same problem.

How are we doing on this guys? I know there were a couple of you working on tuning the file perfectly. Any updates?

I highly recommend this and have a whole video series of Soundskins into several cars, but my G87 specifically in this case. The work isn't hard and is not a lot of cost in materials.

This really makes a difference in cutting out tire hiss and general road noise, improving the sound floor in the car.

Hey Stefan,

I've not made any progress yet, due to unexpected retina detachment surgery (btw, it's not a fun thing to deal with lol) a few weeks ago. I'm recovering now, and ready to start tinkering with the stereo system again, especially since I just received my UMIK-1 yesterday.

I will update the thread with any progress I'm able to make over the next few days.

Cheers!
Tom

I just got mine as well and played around with the software today, although I was more learning how it all works so I didn't get anything done except setting up distance measurements. Trying to learn how to use the RTA function on Helix, I got the basic idea down, I just need to find some calibration files so I can actually tune the speakers to the right curve.

Here is a quick video how to tune using the Audiotec Fischer software. It won’t be as precise as pairing it up with REW, but it might get it close enough. For the Umik you can get the calibration files from the MiniDSP website.

haha this is actually the guy I've been watching, trying to follow his steps. Being ADD doesn't help though when the videos are 90 minutes long but I'm getting there 🤣 I also downloaded the UMIK calibration files but they didn't seem to work, I couldn't get them to load for some reason. It also doesn't help that for some reason the Helix program display is cropped and shrunk on my laptop in certain areas, cutting off words or buttons, makes things difficult to get anything done quickly.

It's weird, I'm pretty tech savvy but I have the absolute worst luck with technology, nothing EVER just works the way it's supposed to for me. But, I'll get it taken care of. It's really just gonna take hours of playing with the software, getting to know how this stuff works, learning all the ins and outs and just doing it. I've always been the "scoop the mids and bump the bass and treble in a curve" kinda guy so this is a whole nother level for me, got lots to learn.

It would be so much easier if I could do this on my computer rather than a tiny lil laptop with a cord that's too short because nothing longer works but oh well.
