Yeah, how crazy. My first car out of school when I was 17. I think from memory I paid $3000AUD for it.

A lot of fun in that list for sure.
The 2 cars that really stood out for me amongst all the expensive stuff were the LT Celica with a custom 450HP turbo engine and a heap of other cool mods. That thing would spin the rear tires in 4th gear.

And of course the E46 M3. This is the car that really got me and I have thought about a lot, hence the soon-to-arrive M2.

Both those cars will stick with me for life.

I'm pretty excited for it to arrive. Nervous as well. I'm afraid I'll miss the zl1, but I tell myself I can always switch back in the future lol. Im pretty confident I'll get more enjoyment out of the m2 for daily driving and my uses though.

I was the same with with my 503hp G82, but like you said, you can always go back later. Well never be surprised if we don’t try!

I have 7 year old kids, and would really be better off with a 4-door. But when a friend of mine told me he was letting go of his 7000-mile 2023 M2 recently, and would give it to me at blue-book trade-in value, I couldn't resist. (He moved to a Cayman GTS.)

Previously I had been driving a MK8 GTI, but in the past I have been lucky enough to own some pretty amazing cars, from a Carrera C4S to a Corvette Z06 to a Toyota Supra. I'm just glad I was able to experience them all.

The M2 is the most impressive of them all as far as an overall balanced package. It's a real bargain when you think about it.

The kids love it, and luckily happily wait for the seats to fold forward so they can squeeze into the back.

The lists on here are CRAZY...but fun to see. Some of you look like you could've redeemed punch cards for a free car at some point. LOL

My list:

2000 Honda Civic EX 5MT
2006 Acura TSX 6MT
2016 BMW 340i 6MT
2024 BMW M2 6MT

For me, when I was looking at changing cars, I was filtering for manual transmissions, so the list wasn't all that long.

My wife would veto many, I wasn't considering a lot of others...

But I was definitely eye-balling the 718s for a bit.

Then, I priced them out, and it was like...okay. But then I priced an M2 out and saw it was nearly $30k less with everything spec'd out.

It was a no brainer at that point.

And although people don't sit in the rear seats most of the time, it has been nice to have a full-sized trunk.

Also, I've always thought the M3 (multiple generations) was a sort of dream car of mine, so this is that car for me.

*side note: man, saw several of you with the Integra GSRs...LOVED that car!

I think it's not too well known outside of the bimmer community how much of a bargain the G87 M2 is. It's basically a shorter M3/4 with not as many bells and whistles, but with almost the same performance for much less sticker shock and a shorter wheelbase which leads to a different enough driving experience to be a welcome trade-off for things like ventilated seats and higher quality leather. The LCI G87 has the same horsepower and torque as a base M3/4. That's remarkable for a vehicle lower in the M food chain.

If's it's any consolation to your dreams of one day owning a M3, I sold my G82 M4 Competition X-Drive to get the G87. There are still many things to look forward to in a G80 or next-gen M3, but don't sleep on the M2. Your current car someone else's' dream car!

My eyes have already started wandering away from the M2...I've told myself I'll gift it to my son when he graduates college, but that's 6 years away. That would make 7 with the M2, and I've never kept a car that long. Maybe I'll have to gift it to him for earning scholarships to college...🤔

What’s next? Something sportier or something more luxurious?

Thinking about dipping my toes into the P-car pond, who knows. I don't really do "luxury" per se. I like the M2, don't get me wrong. Maybe it's just an itch that will go away. We've got lots of other things to focus on before I get a new car, and my wife's already told me she's trading her X3MC for an X5MC before I get something new. And she's the boss

I get it. I’m a few years away from the kids going to college. I’m counting the days to get a GT4 or maybe something different like a 911 Targa 4S!

Nice! My dad had a Sprite and a 3000. Drove the 3000 from the naval base in San Diego to NY when he got out of the service. He’s 81 and still says how fun but scary the Healey was driving cross country through tunnels next to tractor trailers, etc. occasional Ill see one for sale online and tell him he should buy it to relive his youth

FD RX-7 (18 years)
S2000 (5 years)
6th Gen Camaro SS (2 years)
6th Gen Camaro ZL1 (2 years)
8Y RS3 (1 year)

The FD is probably the most memorable and I still love them, but essentially every part on the car needs to be replaced or upgraded and it's not for anyone less than 100% committed

I see the G87 as a blend of muscle car, sports car, and comfortable cruiser - it's a good balance for the street
