If BMW was planning to ditch the manual option for 2026 model, would we already know?

If not, when during the year would we find out?

Do you think we’ll at least squeeze one more model year out before they nix it completely?

It’s supposed to be around for the whole generation. Pretty sure it’s been confirmed in a few threads.

I don't think BMW would formally make that guarantee (no upside for them to do so). I've certainly never seen that stated in writing, and even if it was, BMW always has the right to change their mind, right?

All I'm saying is, there are no guarantees on this that I'd stake money on. Circumstances change, and companies change their minds.

Is there a certain time in the calendar year that we would know for sure?

Probably, but I wouldn't know it. That would be a question for a BMW insider.

No direct experience but over the years various car buyers or wanna be car buyers have run up against an option they wanted and was even able to order that turned out to not be available, had been withdrawn.

This hasn't happened often.

But my takeaway is one can't know for sure until he receives delivery of the car optioned as he ordered it or is told the build order the way it was written can't be fulfilled because the option is no longer available.

If the manual option was withdrawn I would hope that BMW would not build the car equipped with an automatic in the hopes you would accept the car.

Added: My understanding is if one orders a car and the car comes in with an option missing or an extra option present -- a car that clearly doesn't match the build details -- that one can refuse the car. Or of course accept the car.

I was told it was very important to when building a car to be sure the build was as one wanted it. To check and double check. An entry mistake can be made and if not caught in time...

I don't think it will happen with the G87. When you consider that the take rate is 50/50 between the manual and auto in the US.

It was in the first year, but that may have been pent up demand. I don't think we know current take rate. I'd be happy if it is still 50-50 of course.

If that were to happen it would show up on the backend roughly 6-9mo before being announced, just depends on when BMW updates their databases. ynguldyn would likely see it before then.

As a reminder, there were rumors that BMW would kill off the base model G80/2 w/MT when the LCI came out. That never materialized; you can still get an LCI G80/2 with MT.

Without any real information to share, I would speculate:
1) They won't kill a M/T on just the M2. It is the same powertrain as the M3/M4. It will get killed for all or none. They wouldn't want to kill the M3/4 without the M2 and risk getting people to downgrade (in $ value) their purchase to get a M/T. And if they are making it for M3/4, it would be odd to kill for M2.

2) If I was BMW and wanted to kill it off, I would give a lot of advance notice. That way, manual die hards have a chance to buy while you are still selling and not risk them not getting the car they want and buying a Porsche.

Heck, recently several cars have had "final year" editions with fancy badges and price markups, like the Charger. Car makers have been making it a whole thing.

I am hoping #2 is the case with the M2/M3/M4. My plan is to grab an M3 the last year of this current generation with a manual. I have no desire for any M car that is hybridized/automatic.

When I purchased my M2 6-Speed last week the dealer was adamant that there will no longer be a 6-speed. Who knows...

M3 EOP 02/27
M4 EOP 06/28
M2 EOP 07/29

The MT will be around on the G80/2 until 06/28, just over a year before the M2 ends production. The only way I see them getting rid of the MT is if the M2 xDrive completely replaces the current model. There were also rumors that BMW could extend the EOP time of the G87.

That said, the bigger concern as of now is the threat of tariffs. Worst case, if the US follows through with high tariffs it would halt all sales to the US but continue in other markets. Anyone wanting a MT G87 would need to look at the used market. The repercussions of not being able to sell in the US market could also mean they scrap their plans for an M2 xDrive altogether and also removes any prospect of extending the production of the G87.

The dealership isn't a place that I go to for accurate information when it comes to things like this. There are definitely people on this forum well connected into BMW that know a whole lot more.
