Better for traction- 305 Nitto 555G2 or 285 MPS4S

This is probably a stupid question but what rear tire would produce more grip
Nitto 555 G2 with a 305 width or MPS4S in a 285 width?
Obviously wider is better but the MPS4S is a superior tire so I was wondering if it would be as good for grip as a lower quality Nitto that’s wider

If you want the best dry grip and acceptable wet performance for road use, neither. Pick an Extreme Performance category tyre such as the RE-71RS, Cup 2(240), CR-S or R-S4.

Those are all awesome tires, especially the CR-S and Cup 2, but if you HAD to choose between the two options I listed above, which would you go with?

Are you speaking for daily or track?

The Nitto 555R2s will give the best traction in summer hear and in a straight line (read as drag radial). They do have a softer sidewall (again, read as drag radial). Probably best drag radial in wet conditions but there is no such thing as a good drag radial.in the rain.

The PS4S is an allocation around tire. For stock power, these are an excellent summer tires choice (obviously you will be able to break them loose). I would prefer a wider tire like a 305.

If looking for a daily, best of both worlds, go with Cup 2s (if you want the stickier option, go with the R).

Personally, I have run the RE-71Rs with less power and would be a hard pass on them.

I have run the Atturo AZ850DRs, Nitto 555R2s and Cup 2s (currently running)...all 305/30/20. Out of the three, the Cup 2s are the best all around tire.

Caveat: all of the above mentioned tires will suck under cooler (and colder) conditions.

If general purpose use is the priority and grip is not the most important consideration, the MP4S. If budget is the biggest consideration, I would chose the Nankang CR-S for a better grip-per-dollar rating, as they are available in G87 suitable sizes (would pick the R-S4 if they had sizes available).

Is it true that Cup2s will only give you about 8k miles on regular driving (no tracking)?

Depends on how much power and driving habits. The Cup 2R will give significantly less.

I got about 5k good miles on the Atturos. Maybe a little more off the Nittos (I took them off with still some meat left on them). Cup 2s should definitely give more than the 555R2s.
