The FD is probably the most memorable and I still love them, but essentially every part on the car needs to be replaced or upgraded and it's not for anyone less than 100% committed

I see the G87 as a blend of muscle car, sports car, and comfortable cruiser - it's a good balance for the street
Do you still have the RS3? How do they compare?

Our next vehicle purchase will most likely be for the wife. We will keep our Lexus for our kids, and she will upgrade to something else. However, I am already thinking about what a slightly used Xdrive M2 might look like in a few years.

The 8Y is fun but a little "gimmicky"? It does strange things in corners and doesn't feel very natural. On the road I always felt like I was driving a nice Corolla with a hopped up motor...they are fun cars, but should be closer to 45-50k imo...also you sit kind of high up, I wanted to get back to more of a true rwd sports car

It sounds better....the M2 sounds like an angry appliance

2006 Pontiac G6
1997 E36 328 M3 swapped 6sped coupe. (G6 became a winter/daily). I always loved how they looked and couldn't afford much at the time. First manual.
2002 E46 M3 6Sped coupe. The natural progression from the E36. I still own this car and I will never sell it. I love this car so much
2013 Audi S4. Replaced the G6 as the winter daily.I still have this car. Something about a factory-supercharged German car is so cool.
2019 Audi RS3. This became my daily. At the end of the day it made about 600hp which is a good bit for such a light car.
2024 M2. This replaced the RS3 as the daily. I knew it was going to be one of the last manual ICE M cars and I just had to. I love the wide boxy fenders. It's not an ideal car to drive every day but life is short and I may have a kid in the next few years so as they say.... get while the gettin' is good

The E46 always alluded me, though. It’s hard to find one in good condition today without paying outrageous prices!

I should have gotten one instead of my B7 S4 and I always regretted it.

Yours is a beauty. Congrats!

Thank you! I really appreciate it! I bought it back in 2015 with roughly 55,000mi for $14,000. I don't want to think what it costs today but no point in selling it now! Funny enough I was between the E46 and a B6 S4 or Honda S2000.

It's basically a shorter M3/4 with not as many bells and whistles, but with almost the same performance for much less sticker shock and a shorter wheelbase which leads to a different enough driving experience to be a welcome trade-off for things like ventilated seats and higher quality leather. The LCI G87 has the same horsepower and torque as a base M3/4. That's remarkable for a vehicle lower in the M food chain.

If's it's any consolation to your dreams of one day owning a M3, I sold my G82 M4 Competition X-Drive to get the G87. There are still many things to look forward to in a G80 or next-gen M3, but don't sleep on the M2. Your current car someone else's' dream car!
Oh, for sure! That's actually how I feel: me getting the M2 IS me getting my dream car M3 from back in the day.

The M2 is great as is, and I definitely don't feel the itch to move on to an M3/M4.

This is way more car (features, specs, etc.) than those dream M3s, so I'm not complaining!

And man, I love the stance of the M2s. It's significantly wider than my 340 was!

2025 BMW M2  [9.63]
Too many VW GTI’s of various generations and Scirocco 16V’s to list. Also a plethora of Subarus, a Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Nissan Frontier SC, A Chevy Mini van and probably some other forgettable stuff.
Current stable is an ND2 Miata, 5th Gen 4Runner, Model Y and most recently the 2025 M2.
The reason for the M2 is that the Miata is my most fun car but the cheap thrill of straight line acceleration and big motor sounds is non existent in the Miata. This car scratches that itch.
