Anyone had xpel installed ?
Picked up my new skyscraper grey m2 2 weeks ago after accidentally looking at one in the showroom. I knew within a couple of minutes my lovely g42 m240i was about to be chopped in.
It’s purely a weekend car and won’t do a lot of miles but I’ve decided to book it in for front bumper and headlight ppf after quickly realising this might be a keeper and not a quick 1-2 year toy. I’m booked in at a reputable xpel installer. They’ve shown me the template and stated there will be a join either side of the front grills. Those of you who’ve had xpel template installed, are you happy with it? I’ve another guy who said he’d wrap without any gaps but knife cuts and paint scare me. Any pics and feedback of the kit would be massively appreciated. Also, is delaminating of the headlights and issue. I’ve seen a few posts which have concerned me but the installer says whilst a massive issue on Porsche, they’ve had no issues with bmw ? Thank you for any feedback. Really appreciate it. |

I had my car fully wrapped in PPF. I do notice seams here and there, but you get over it quick. For the most part it's invisible.
I do have one piece of advice though. Go with the shop that you feel would be great to work with when things need to be touched up. A shop that's easy to deal with, book appointments, etc. I'm very happy with the shop I went with because they've gone above and beyond with post-install care. They had me come back a few weeks after install for touch ups, and they've even fixed a few tricky areas in the grill that started peeling. So, based on my experience I'd say customer service is a big factor here. |

I’ve been in email conversation for a week and visited both companies to view their work. The xpel installer has a lot of work on their social media and it’s clear a lot of the premium car dealerships send their cars there which gives me some confidence.
They were happy to show me cars in progress and walk me through the process, how they work etc and had 2 brand new landrover defenders parked outside with stealth ppf awaiting collection and they looked faultless. Also being around 0 degrees in the uk at the moment, their unit was heated extremely warm to enable better application and they always keep over night before handover heated in the unit to fully dry the car before leaving. May be an absolute disaster but my fingers are crossed 😂 |

Im in the UK and had several cars ppf by detailers and tbh I've never been 100% happy, film edges lifting, panel overlay, dirt ingress on the lifted edges and swirl marks in the film. I wanted my new car to be a keeper so i did some research and wanted a business whom solely focuses on ppf, i went with topaz whilst there more expensive the end result is flawless.

Their work does look impressive. Bit far from me. I think I’ve come to the acceptance if I’m not happy I’ll remove it and not bother in the future. Expensive experiment but fingers crossed it will pay off

Seams are normal with the geometry of this car. If the installers are good they’ll be almost invisible. To keep it that way when washing try never to wipe against the edge of the film. Always parallel to it.

At the installer to pick my car up and there is in fact a prominent seam on either side of the grill. I am not pleased at all. Also has a seam on the inner side of the grills.

Looks like the machine that cut the film had a dull blade or something.

TBH looks good. The front bumper is extremely tough to PPF on this car and it has odd tension areas. Had my front end re-done multiple times due to this. If the rest of it looks good then I’d keep it.

I am pretty disappointed in my Xpel wrap for my front bumper. The choice to leave seams in prominent view bothers me. The pre-cut pattern also didn’t snug up to the grills and headlights well. There is only a 1/4 inch excess at the bottom to wrap around under the car. This leaves some areas where you can see the edge didn’t fully adhere.
The shop offered to reinstall the ppf. They did the job in 1 day this time and are asking me to leave it for 2 days for the repeat job. We will see if they can make it look better. They are also going to check with Llumar to see if their pre-cut pattern is better. I have been happy with Xpel on all my other cars but this one just doesn’t look as good. |

That’s interesting as it looks well installed but those lines are very visible on the grey. They did say some colours show up the joins more than others. Thanks for the pics, I’m not sure that is better than the odd stone chip tbh

+1 and at some point it will need to be redone. Mine has a few small seams on front but barely noticeable. I am using the car as a daily many times. Wash, coat and keep it clean. If it gets old etc thats the nature of a car being used. PPF is not a permanent solution over time. It does wear out but does protect in doing so for the paint. PPF is a slow sacrificial layer to preserver the paint. Nothing else. Drive, maintain and enjoy!

I'm very happy with Xpel Dallas, who has done 5-6 vehicles for me. They are very meticulous and will correct any imperfection. Yes there are seams, but I only see them when I'm detailing the car.

I had Xpel on my last G87. I had the same seam across the front bumper. After a year, it didn't look great near the center.
This time I got Suntek. My PPF guy actually showed me they have multiple templates for the G87. He was able to do my front bumper with no seam this time. |

I’ve been in contact with my installer and they said ref the grey install, getting the joins butted up correctly will hide most of the joint. You can see little sections where the joint is closer and blends in much better. I think if they can get it as good as the red bmw then I’ll be happy |
