Software 07/2024.30 Not Installing
About 10-days ago I received a notice through the MyBWM app that a new version, 07/2024.30 of the car software was available for download. I followed the steps, downloaded the software to my iPhone, and then transferred the software to my 2022 M240iX.
The message on the iDrive screen now states, "The upload for you BMW M240i xDrice was completed successfully. ... The installation can only be performed while parked and takes approx. 20-30 minutes. You cannot use your vehicle during this time." So, that was about 10-days ago. The software installation has still not begun even though the car has been parked for extended periods (both inside and outside). Is there a way to force the start of the installtion process? Thanks.

you need to manually start the update. when you turn off your car, do not open your door and look at the infotainment screen. there will be an option to start the update. if you do not see a message, you might need to manually do it through your BMW app on your phone or through settings on your infotainment (you might need the parking brake on). I suggest that after you start the update, make sure all the windows are up and doors are closed, then lock your car (if you already do not)

If theres an update available it should nag you to do it every time you get in the car. The last two had no feature updates and i only did them to make the nags go away. Its annoying to have to redo all bimmercoding with each upgrade.

The car will only allow an upgrade when the battery is sufficiently charged, parking break applied & parked on a flat-ish surface. When you leave the car are all these requirements satisfied?

Interesting - I asn't aware that the parking break had to be set. I'll give that a try and see if it makes a difference. Thanks.

It may only be a requirement for UK vehicles, dont know about US. But last time a did an upgrade is 100% had parking break as one of the requirements that got ticked before it started.

Well, I tried setting the parking brake several times. No luck. I just wrote to BMW Genius. Let's see what they say.

Hi Danny, Thanks for contacting the BMW Genius Team about your 2022 BMW M240i xDrive Coupe. I'm sorry to hear about this Software installation issue. In order for the Remote Software Update to finish installing in your BMW, you must be parked on a flat surface with the parking brake engaged and the headlights switched off. The engine must also be relatively cool, and the battery sufficiently charged. Once the update is ready to install, you will have the option to "Perform upgrade now", once you turn the engine off. If necessary, I advise updating BMW Assist as troubleshooting: Via iDrive: "Apps" You will see a grey screen with the choice to either select Installed Apps or the BMW Store. Select neither option. Press the OPTION button near your iDrive controller. Select "Update Installed Apps and Services." After the update is complete, select "Close." Reboot the iDrive your vehicle by pressing and holding the mute (VOL) button for 70 seconds with the car on but parked. If after attempting these steps you still have concerns, please contact your local BMW service center for further assistance. It appears there is another secret step in getting this software upgrade to install: shutting off the headlights. I tried following all of these steps, I have never been presented with the message to "perform upgrade now" as described above. Perhaps there are more secret steps in this process that will only be shared with me if I keep asking. For example: - Make sure the car is pointing towards the magnetic north pole - Open the sunroof, but only half way - Exit the vehicle and walk around it in a counter-clockwise direction while singing Edelweiss Now the car is telling me that I have waited too long to install the software. Sheesh.
