The lady hired a lawyer - clearly not a car guy - who said her client had bought "lifetime oil" for her vehicle and that she deserved to have the motor replaced due to this... $24k replacement from dealer... Turns out the lady paid upfront for "lifetime oil CHANGES", up to 100k but never brought the car in for service even though the CBS (condition based system) said "Oil Change" with LOTS of miles of overage... and the oil light going off continuously, etc... Just retard level stupidity and ignoring a pretty obvious problem and waiting until the car left her stranded... Not a drop of oil on the dip stick when the mechanic pulled it out. As a car guy, I just can't fathom ignoring all of the CBS error messages, and just continuing to drive the car... Expensive mistake. It went to court and the lady lost and lost big, and had to pay the dealerships attorney fees in addition to the repair of the car, etc.. I just shook my head ruefully as the lady told me the saga. And, no - she wasn't even hot! but I listened intently anyway! |

That engine lasted over 60,000 miles without an oil change. That is a testament to Toyota durability and reliability. As for being a car guy, I understand, but just think about some of the posts on this board, and not just this thread. Then extrapolate to the general public.

I had a co-worker who bought one of the original Honda Accords. She drove it and drove it and drove it. I'm not sure if she added oil from time to time, but she never changed it. Engine froze up in the 49,000 - 51,000 mile range.
For most people, rare as they are, it is a mistake made only once. |

Years ago when I was shopping for an F82, a beautiful Leguna Seca Blue in my spec popped up for sale. It was really cheap... like 10k below market value. I surely thought there was a pricing error on the website. Turns out, owner leased the car and never got an oil change or the running 1200 mile service. So 3 years later, 30k miles/0 oil changes with the original oil from the factory. This is what the service history showed. No thanks!
Hopefully not the case here. Last edited by aliiin; Today at 04:30 PM.. |
