Garage List 2025 BMW M2 [9.50]
2022 G82 M4C X-Drive [9.81] 2018 F80 M3 CS [9.92] 2018 BMW i3 REx [5.33] 2015 BMW i3 REx [3.00] 2016 BMW F80 M3 [7.63] 2016 BMW F30 340i ZTR [10.00] 2013 BMW F30 328i [8.50] 2006 Audi S4 25Quattro [7.33] |
I had my '06 Audi S4 25Quattro and I was looking at a used E46 or new E92 because the engine needed to be replaced for $13k.
Then the housing crash of 2007-2010 happened. At that point I decided to buy a new house when the market was low. I had to sell the S4 and lease a 328i for something like $300/month, I don't quite remember, but it was cheap and I needed the money for a down payment on a new home. We would sell our townhome when the market recovered a bit and we were not so upside-down. With that in mind, I bought our current home for less than half what it's worth today and ended up breaking even on our townhome. I love that 328i. I was actually still a very nice car and while the E46 and E92 were the nicer cars by a big mile, ultimately, I'm glad I got a new house instead. Thank you, 328i!

Same for me. Before I bought my e92 m3 my 1st BMW was the 328i xdrive with a manual! It was so much fun I had to see what the M3 was about. Put my deposit down in June of 2010 and my model year 2011 arrived in December of 2010.

Thought I’d chip in and add my history. I was somewhat of a Jap guy to begin with, but slowly moved over into the German scene. Love my M, wouldn’t change it for the world.

I miss the driver “engagement” of some of the older rawer cars, but I’d never swap back to one. |

My purchase was a bit because I knew what they would give me for my E92 335i. I had no plans to change it, but seeing that they were paying me so well for the old car, I didn't think twice.
I wanted to wait a couple of years because my goal was a second-hand Cayman GT4 with few miles. I had seen the M2 in photos and it didn't appeal to me, but when I saw it in person I loved it. I have previously owned: Ford Fiesta XR2 Opel Astra GSI 16v León Cupra R BMW E92 335i |

There sure are some fascinating car lists here, a real variety of vehicles covering a vast array of uses and needs. This has got me thinking to my car history and the "why" as to the G87 purchase.
Here is a summary of the relative highlights, quite a few have been left off due to them either being terrible or embarrassing....! I passed my test (UK license) in 1993 and jumped straight into the first car, a mighty 1987 Ford Fiesta 1.1 Pop, a beast of a vehicle. High/low lights: - '92 Ford Escort 1.4L, a terribly boring car, but I really liked it - '87 Austin Mini auto, three speed auto in a 1.0 litre car, hilarious - '86 Saab 900i two door saloon, the car was in a sorry state, but I loved it - '98 Saab 9-3 2.3i, the first "proper" car that actually cost money - '99 Saab 9-5 2.0t estate, had an Elk Parts ECU upgrade, stunning car all round - '03 Saab 9-5 Aero, brilliant, brilliant car, third gear pull in that was bonkers - '07 Alfa Romeo 159 1.9jtdm, had an ECU tune on this, excellent all round car - '08 Alfa Romeo GT Q2 1.9jtdm, had a LSD fitted as standard, toured Italy in this - '08 BMW 325i E92 manual, my first six cylinder RWD car, loved it - '12 BMW 320d E92 auto, first proper auto car, added a tuning box, excellent fun and amazing economy - '17 BMW 440i F32 auto, the B58 is a stunner, one of the modern age engines to remember - '22 BMW M440i G22, my first, and probably only, brand new car, ordered and specced then waited 9 months for delivery, a brilliant all round car, but I found it a little too tame/controlled, I longed for the RWD "edge", hence.... - '23 BMW G87 M2 auto, what.....a.......proper......motor.....!!! Absolutely love it. I also have a '12 Alfa Romeo Giulietta as my work/shopping/daily car, the 2.0jtdm in that is giving me 60+mpg, a perfect little work horse. The G87 seems to have the best of all worlds in terms of being a cruiser (just about), vaguely practical, FAF, engaging to drive, different (in a good way) to look at and also rather unique in this world of EVs, Hybrids and the SUVs that plague our roads. |

I noticed you also had a G42,did you trade up for the M2 for the manual?I wanted a manual M2 but I didn’t want to wait for one(my mistake) so I settled for an Auto which the Dealership had on order .I find a manual sports car is much more satisfying but the Auto M2 is really good !

Fun thread! Here’s mine:
2000 BMW 323i (E46) 2013 VW Jetta TDI 2009 BMW 128i (E82) 2012 BMW 135i LCI (E82) 2019 BMW 330i M-Sport (G20) 2020 BMW M340i First Edition (G20) 2023 BMW X1 xDrive28i 2025 BMW M2 LCI (G87) I realize it’s a lot of BMW. It’s not that I didn’t try other things — I had a deposit on a beautiful 2016 Porsche Cayman once, and I had a 2019 Genesis G70 on the way after a BMW dealer blew up my 135i with a botched repair. Had BMW not given me an offer I couldn’t refuse, I probably would've left the brand. I regret selling the E46. An absolute pain in the ass to own at times, but I loved it to pieces. |

My car journey commenced with a 1971 Mini Clubman back in 1973, next was a 1975 Datsun 260Z (240Z with larger engine displacement). The car addiction took hold and had several left field cars including a couple of Alfa Romeos, a Triumph TR7, Volvo 850R Estate, several fast VW's, Audis and a few Porsches...an expensive, yet enjoyable journey.
In May 2023 I was on a flight from Dubai to Barcelona and read an article in Top Gear on the newly released G87 M2, the seed was well and truly planted in my mind. Several weeks later whilst sitting in the Business Lounge at Marco Polo airport (Venice) I contacted BMW Sylvania and got the ball rolling on acquiring the newly realised G87. Even though I recently purchased a G80 M3 I look back on my ownership journey with the G87 with no regrets, the G87 is and remains an excellent driving enthusiast's car. |

My Cayman was almost double the price of the M2. I checked a lot of boxes on the Cayman as one should if they get an allocation 🤪 Last edited by DrJLag420; Yesterday at 03:56 PM.. |
