Yes, I added a 6-point harness to my stock carbon buckets
So I installed a 6-point harness and retained the stock BMW carbon bucket.
How to video: To address some potential concerns/criticisms: 1: Are you crazy? You cut up your BMW Carbon bucket seats???!! Why didn't you sell those and buy some aftermarket bucket seats??? Answer: I like the seats. I like the challenge. I was fine with the risk. 2: Why didn't you do a full cage, or at least a half cage? Answer: Sure a full cage or half cage would be safer if I ever rolled my car. While I get aggressive on the track I do not compete and I don't pass a car without a point-by. Also, most of the tracks I drive have lots of runoff room making the risk of a rollover even less. Even if I did roll, the M2 has a pretty strong structure and all airbags are functional. The main problem with doing a cage is that I like to drive to the track on street tires and bring my track tires with me. I can fit 3 tires in the back seat and 1 in the trunk. When I get to the track I swap the tires. This allows me to get more life out of my track tires and more importantly it is safer to drive to and from the track on my street tires especially if it is raining. If I had a cage I couldn't fit tires in the backseat. A tire trailer, roof rack, and towing the car to my destinations were all considered but I decided to give this a shot. The harness bar is correctly positioned to give the proper shoulder strap angle and the mounting for it is really strong. My ultimate goal was to have a 6-point harness for a more secure hold in the car, increase safety, and be able to take my tires to the track. Check, check, and check. 3. Why didn't you use a 4-point harness and have the rear straps connect to the rear seat mounts? Answer: You really can't get the 4-point harnesses tight enough. The tighter you get it the more the lap belt pulls upward. This is an unsafe position and it makes the harness loose on your hips. Also, If I attached the rear straps to the rear seat mounts the straps would be at an unsafe angle (potentially). 4. I still think you are an idiot and I wouldn't have done it that way. Answer: ok. Enjoy your life.

Nice!!
I'm surprised you didn't try to go through the carbon crotch piece, but really well done. I didn't watch the whole video admittedly, but where did the harness bar come from? Seems like a really good alternative. The roof structures on these cars are solid. |

Damn this is awesome. I've been looking at the opening at the seat bottom and thinking whether I can cut the leather and pass the harness through. Are you considering selling that 3D print insert? This is very intriguing I might just do the same when I decide to get cage and harness.

All the events that I run is self inspection and is just a form that says something like "are your seat belts functional?" "is your brake fluid in good condition?" etc
I know that if I did NASA or SCCA then it would be a different story. Did you see anything concerning?

I assume you're using a HANS or Simpson head restraint. |

Yes, I have a HANS. With my torso height the rear straps go right through the middle of the slot and don't even touch the seat.

And no, I won't print these for anyone. That's not my SLS 3D printer
