My next Purchase is 2-Series or 4-Series?
Some Advice. I sold my previous track n road car = Crossfire SRT6 which was almost indestructible. Now looking at two specific vehicles, trying to stay under $20k and prefer a 2dr coupe. These are BMW M235 and 440i. I guess I include the variants of each as they can be modded, like 228i, 230, 428, 430 and 435.
NOW I KNOW THIS IS A 2-Series Forum! So at a risk of bias from the group I ask: As a track car, is there a model I should "stay away" from? I know this a big ask from the group, and I don't want to get any owner of one or the other upset. At first look it appears the 2-Series is all around better as a track car, but possibly the 4-Series longer wheel base helps enough to compensate for the additional weight. Or, is there no real advantang/disadvantage to the 4-Series? Chances are, I may end up with either and might be which ever is the best "deal" at the time. If there is a better forum/group to ask, then please let me know. |

You have actually posted in the general BMW section of the forum. So probably a better place to get a less biased response
![]() Personally I prefer the smaller size and lower weight of the 2-series, but you can have a lot of fun in either. On engines, again personally I would go with the 240/440 variants as these have the newer (and arguably better) B58 engine. If you're fine with a 4-cylinder, similarly I would go with the 230/430 variants with the B48 over the N20.

My first suggestion would be to take a look at wheel and tire specs for each model. 2 series has awkward wheel et and in general you can fit wider tires on 3/4 series with better wheel and tire selection esp with camber plates. On your list 435 would be my #1. The other models are inferior. Also keep in mind most of these cars don’t have lsd so if you find 435i with it that would be the one, it makes a big diff to put power down esp. in advanced groups.
