Wrap vs. Paint + Wheel Finish Advice for G42 M240i

Hey guys,

I have a 2024 BMW M240i in Brooklyn Grey, and I’m considering wrapping it in either satin black or gloss black in the future. If I choose a gloss black wrap, would it be better to just paint the car instead?

I’m also wondering which wheel finish would pair better with each wrap. If I go with a satin black wrap, should I match it with satin black or gloss black wheels? And if I choose a gloss black wrap, would satin or gloss black wheels look better?

Looking for opinions from those who have experience with similar setups. Thanks!

Personally, I think that satin cars look great in the lights and clinical environment of a show room but quickly look terrible out in the wild.
I certainly wouldn’t repaint a car satin as it’s near impossible to repair and fairly difficult to maintain at best.

As for gloss black, I can’t really imagine what that would be like. A London cab I’d imagine.

Why not buying a black M240i to begin with? Repainting a new car to an available color does not make sense. I understand saphir is not a fully gloss black but look great.

Also if you want a satin car you are better off also buying car the color you want and put a satin PPF on the entire car. At least the engine bay and painted area will be the same color.

If the color you want is not available from factory then consider a wrap. Army green, burned orange, etc .

To answer your question search for the AUTOID satin black M240i, it has. black wheels. Look great in pictures.

I would sell it and buy a Black Sapphire Metallic one.

If you repaint it gloss black, I reckon you’ll substantially devalue it. I also doubt it would look any good. So in that respect, if you really must go gloss black, I’d wrap it. And if I was wrapping it, I wouldn’t go for a standard colour.

As for wheels, again not a fan of black. I have a Black Sapphire Metallic car and have the standard 893M as my summer wheels and 898M winter wheels. I prefer my winters which are satin gunmetal.

I agree with the above, sell or wrap (ideally in an unavailable color).

Are you aware of the cost of a full wrap, I believe it is like 4K?

For wheels color and car color it is very dependent to your tastes, not sure how guys on a car forum that do not know you can help you.

I like black wheels but prefer dark grey with satin finish. Some hate black or dark wheels and some like those…
