I was trying to find the videos but they've all been removed ....
Earlier this year there was a street race bust via police drone. We stood there looking up at the damn thing and around at each other asking whose drone it was. None of us thought to think of a police drone. LOL
Soon as we started heading to cars/trailers a few officers rolled in.
Couple brave guys spoke with them and it was the normal story no arrests and just kind folks asking us to go elsewhere. ALWAYS appreciative when that's the treatment we get.

I drove by the officer running the drone when I left. He was about a mile away. Outside our security area. Pretty sly.

Pretty cool story for us. LOL

We just began a drone program earlier this year. I think we only have 4 drones on the entire department.

We have one quite firmly packed in its carrying case. Nobody has spent the time to get certified to fly it yet. I haven't seen the new K-9 officer in a while either . . . coincidence? Was somebody a bad boy?

Double left turn lanes and roundabouts are two areas where I just expect the other driver to do the wrong thing. For whatever reason, they just can't seem to get the concept.

On double left turn lanes I try to be in the #1 lane and go ahead of behind the car in the #2 lane, fully expecting that they will turn in to the #1 lane.

I can see a ton of useful thing with them. But I think the hugely helpful thing would be search and rescue or finding missing folks. Toss a thermal camera on it and go on the hunt. We have tons of lakes/rivers/streams here and seems that there are autistic kids wandering off too often. Most with bad outcomes because it takes so long to figure out where they may have gone. Send up a drone with thermal and one normal as the investigator. Might be able to find much faster? I almost want to get a drone to try and help with something like that.
Same for and catastrophic event, fires, storms, floods cruise the drone back and forth for signs of life.

I'm getting annoyed at the videos of people baiting and challenging cops. It makes me want to smack them when they want to refuse ID but demand name and badge number and want a supervisor. HOW cops cope with these (I can't use the word here) is beyond me.

We would generally hold it for safe keeping at the station or relinquish it to the spouse or family member. If it’s held for safe keeping, it can be retieved at any time by the registered owner.

The topic of speeding has come up before but it's been a long time and I don't remember your answer.

On the freeway when road conditions are good, how much over the speed limit must a vehicle be going to get you to pull them over and give the driver a ticket?

For context to the reason for my question: I was going eastbound on Interstate 80 and was going to be way early for a meeting so I stayed in the right two lanes with the semi rigs and just hung out. Much to my surprise, I had to stay a minimum of 70mph to keep up with the trunk in front of me and all of the cars in the 1st and 2nd lane were passing us like we were standing still, probably averaging 80 mph or more. Yes, each of those vehicles is exceeding the speed limit and subject to a speeding ticket, but what scenario would cause you to pull one of the speeding vehicles over and cite the driver?

I would say 10-15 MPH over the prima facie speed limit is the target range where officers start conducting traffic stops.

While 10-15 over has been my experience on the highway, when driving through small South Carolina towns I’ve found the threshold to be 0.00001 over.
