Squeaks and rattles on G42 M240i.

BMW ( even those built in Mexico) generally have a good reputation for being well screwed together.

However, my 2023 car seems to have more than it's fair share of squeaks, rattles, and drumming vibration, especially when driven over poor roads.

Most seem to come from the rear of the car (parcel shelf/rear seat area) but I have been unable to eliminate them fully.

Ant ideas or solutions chaps?

I'm rather disappointed with the build quality of my '22 M240ix in terms of annoying and unwanted sounds. Like many M240 owners here, I have the dreaded "rear suspension thump" problem, Also, I'm still battling an annoying intermittent buzzing sounds coming from my center console area. Back in March my dealership replaced the:
51-16-9-870-475 Center Console Armrest
51-16-9-483-596 Armrest Retainer Set
that corrected some of this problem. I still have an intermittent resonance buzzing sound coming from the center console area when I'm sport mode at lower RPMs and continue to try to track down the source so it can be fixed and eliminated.

The cover for the 3rd taillight at the top of the rear headliner is coming down on one side. Pushing back up into place makes a creaking sound.
I haven't seen anyone mention that as a culprit, it may be worth checking out.

It is annoying.

Sometimes I think I have solved the problem(s) only for squeaks and rattles to return.

Change in temperature often makes for more rattles.

My '23 has plenty of random noises, to the point I actually regret buying the car. It's really disappointing for a BMW considering I've driven and ridden in many other cars since then, all of which have fewer noises. My F22 was better.

As for fixes, the only couple things I have successfully fixed is the silver trim around the steering wheel by putting some fabric tape behind it (wheel was creaking), and the creaking leather on the seat by moving the leg extension forward by one notch.

I have my car going back to the dealer tomorrow to have the sunroof shade replaced since they think it's a source of some noise (I'll let them try, but I'm doubtful). I also asked them to look at the light knocking from the rear (I don't think it's "the thump").

The thing about this car is it has some moments on smooth freeways or ones with just minor cracks, it's damn near perfect. Other times, especially on our typical roads, it's rather awful. I cannot ever turn off the music otherwise I lose my mind.

My 2023 m240i still has zero rattles or squeaks after 24000 miles.
It is a UK car with standard non adjustable suspension, not sure if that makes a difference

Same (8000) but mine has the ZKT and adaptive.

I do sometimes wonder if the Americans have upset the Mexicans in some way given the problems the seem to get with their cars

My car is generally fine. Brakes and steering creaks when cold and pulling out of a parking spot...

In reality, noise severity is a matter of circumstance. The condition of the roads, the noise floor acceptance of the driver, driving with or without music or windows open, or individual build variations.

When I drive on the smoothest of roads, my car is acceptably quiet. Unfortunately, much of my commute is on roads with frost heaves which exacerbates noises caused by anything loose or overlapping materials without padding between.

I am one of the vocal minority when it comes to noises primarily because of my expectations on something marketed as a "premium" or "luxury" coupe, the fact I have an innate attunement for noises and defects, and the fact I just can't let it go. I see noises as problems with potential solutions, so I feel the need to fix it in an aim to meet some degree of perfection.

I mention all this because there a number of people that drive on better condition roads, who drive with windows open, who never turn down the stereo, or simply aren't bothered by the most minute of noises. I can almost guarantee I can find an extraneous noise in almost any car I am in, while most will ask "why does that tiny sound bother you?" I just know it can be better.

My 24 240 is perfect. But I also couldn’t consider a Mazda as an alternative to it

Just got 300 miles on my 2025 m240i and a very noticeable vibration comes from the passenger twitter speaker area, not the speaker itself, what a bummer.
