Your opinion on quality of PPF work

Hi everyone!

I just got my car PPFd and I'm concerned with a few details.

Q: Should I accept the work, what is not good enough, what is acceptable.

Cost: approx 6000$

Concerned with carelessly missed edges, strange stretching, dirt cought under. The missed edges concerns me since i handwash my car with pressure washers and it seems to me that the water pressure will make the missed edges "spread". The dirt is simply not OK imo and the strange stretching around the sensor is also careless imo.

Here is a link to imgur of the current PPF:

Looking forward to your opinion.

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely 100% unacceptable, especially for that cost.

Looks like an amateur installer did the job.
No professional, experienced installer would do that bad a job.

Demand a complete refund, or find out if they have an
experienced, pro installer and give them a chance to redo,
if they won't refund the money.

I they won't redo properly, or refund the money, I'd hire a lawyer
and sue them for every penny.

Horror stories like this are why I haven't spent the $7k or so I've been quoted to do my car. Seems like nearly every car I see ppfd has noticeable issues somewhere, it would drive me nuts. The seams alone most cars have are enough to steer me away, but I almost always see issues around some corners, the bumper sensors, etc. Most aren't as bad as what we see here, but I still haven't seen a job done I wouldn't be upset at myself for spending $7k for. For that kind of money these jobs should be absolutely perfect (that is unless I'm completely ignorant to such matters and $7k is considered a cheap/hackjob).

Sorry OP, I hope you can get most if not all of your money back. That work is so just far from acceptable, total hackjob. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Terrible. Get your money refunded. I wouldn't even accept them redoing the job.
I have a great place here in SWFL and I wasn't happy with 2 places on my wife's 25 MB CLE 53 AMG.
For some reason, the computer splits the rocker panel into 2 creating a seam for no reason since it's a straight run.
There were spots on the corners of the trunk near the rear window,
They said to me that it's a difficult spot on these MB's. I brought it back a week later and they fixed it to my liking.
Sometimes there are stress points that need a cut and that is unavoidable.
The work in the pics above were atrocious.

I'd walk in, demand a full refund, and if the owner didn't comply immediately, a fist fight might break out. Yeah it's THAT bad.

That`s a terrible PPF job! Those people are amateurs. I`ve done paint protection film on a few cars, and I have never seen anything like that on my cars. Get them to fix it properly, or get your money back, and go to a professional PPF shop. I just did the "whole" front end of a car this spring with high quality PPF that has self healing properties, (meaning minor scratches can disappear with heat or sunlight), and it looks nothing like that.

Not to be rude but that’s some of the worst work I’ve ever seen. Gotta get your money back.

My car is covered with PPF and you can’t see any evidence of it.

A professional can fix and trim those edges but some pieces need taken off and redone.

$6000 wasted if they don't fix this.

I paid $5,000 for full Xpel not any problems that look that bad. You need that trimmed and a few spots redone that's all.

I just had mine touched up 30 days after the install to be 100% sure I'm good for the next 5-6 years.

They're counting on shoddy work being let go by somebody that won't speak up and demanding it be done right or having their money refunded. If they're willing to let that roll out the door I'm pretty sure they're counting on many just giving up if met with resistance.

I’m located in Sweden 😄 and I haven’t paid yet.

The shop had a new guy there and I suspect he did the job.

The thing that concerns me is that the owner who I met twice, let this job leave his shop. I run my own business and I would never let a new guy work on any part of client deliverables themselves. I always quality check work performed. Any who the owner wants to fix it but still embarrassing and I will never go back with another car. Perfect way to lose future work.

The quality of their work is totally unacceptable, have the PPF removed and do not pay anything and make sure that the owner gives you paperwork stating that there is no money owed.

If possible in your geographic area find another shop. Do your homework by visiting them in person and look at the quality of their work and also read online reviews for any unhappy customers. This is what I did by visiting 5 different shops in my area before selecting one to put PPF and ceramic on my Z4 and have since referred others to him because the quality of his work is outstanding.

This 100%.
Unless you actually see with your own eyes,
work on other cars the owner has done,
and verify he can do it properly, walk away.

It’s a red flag, that he didn’t check his workers
ability to do it correctly.

Find a capable shop to do it properly.

Absolutely Unacceptable

I would not let the installer off the hook on this one. I'll go one even further - require them to remove and refund. Based on their original work you do not want them doing the corrections. The quality of their work will not change.

Assuming they didn't cut the car (as most of those look plotter cut) and this job was free as a training for the new guy. Looks kinda crap. If any money exchanged hands, hell no.

I've done my own PPF, search my history, I've posted up the bodies.

Honestly, I would be cautious about taking it back to them but get it taken off and since you haven't paid yet, run. Clearly they have no clue what they are doing.

As everyone else stated, refund immediately. I wouldn’t even give them the chance to redo. If they are charging a 6k premium, the work better be absolutely flawless, and it is not. Leave them a 1-star review, that tends to get SMB attention. Not sure where you are geographically, but if you’re in the southeast, I can recommend some to you. Best of luck OP!

i'm sorry, but that is brutal. Honestly scares me away from doing any ppf (have never done it, but have been 'considering' a partial ppf for incoming M3).
