The two are FAR apart, and the 240i has nothing to do with the G87... But, whatever makes you happy.... ![]() |

I don't think they are FAR apart. More like "far" (lowercase) apart. The M240 with x-drive is as fast as the M2 and the M240i "x-drive" is a traction monster in both dry and inclement weather. Rear wheel drive cars just cannot put the power down as efficiently.
If tracking is a consideration or the M2 is a second car, then I think that might make sense. If the M240 x-drive is an only car or one never plans to go to the track then the M240 x-drive might make more sense. Both have a place. Now, if BMW would put x-drive in that M2 well... Bob |

The problem with the M2 if you are looking to daily it, is it's ride quality is awful. Yes, the M240i is stiff, but the M2 is overly harsh. I have driven my friends G87 M2 multiple times, and I just couldn't get past it. I even tried two others at dealers to make sure it wasn't just his. Plus, there is no reason for it to be that harsh. "It's a track car" is not an excuse, as my '17 Camaro SS 1LE is quicker on track than a M2, has wider/lower profile tires, and rides much better. The reason is GM's Magnetic Ride Control tuning is on another level compared to BMW's Adaptive M Suspensions tuning. If BMW could improve on that, it would make a world of difference, but BMW just seems to like to tune their suspensions very stiff for some reason. Toyotas suspension changes made a big difference on the GR Supra. It is just as quick on track as an M2 (with less power), yet it rides much better on the street. |
