Faulty BM3 Wifi Adapter and Flex Fuel Kit?
Hey guys, trying to make sure I'm not just missing something stupid before I set up a return for this.
Recently Femto'd my DME on my 24 G87, got the bootmod3 wifi adapter and software as well as their flex fuel sensor kit. The wifi adapter isn't showing up in my wifi list at all. Little switch is in the middle position per Bootmod and I've been trying to deal with their tech support guys who are crap at best. I've explained my issues and they say to use Speedify app. This does nothing for me if I can't even see the damn adapter to connect to in the first place. I installed the flexfuel kit and followed the Kies S58 unlock and tune video step by step. Everything is wired up and plugged back in, I have no codes and the vehicle runs fine. I put 3 gallons of E85 in there, drive for 10 miles and use the cruise button to read ethanol content on the RPMs and it just goes straight to zero. Not reading anything. I've asked if there's any way to test to make sure the thing is working right and they respond "use the cruise button to see ethanol levels". Fucking useless. Should the wifi adapter be showing up automatically for an android or do I have to do something special to make it show up so that I can then do the whole manual IP address thing? And anything I can do to check if the flex fuel kit is actually reading ethanol content and it's not just showing up on the RPM's, or is it possible I just installed it incorrectly and it's just not working at all? I would have assumed if I wired something wrong that there would have been all kinds of codes lol. |

It sounds like you might have a faulty adapter. I didn't have too many problems connecting mine. It does show up at BM3xxxxx so it looks similar to your car's wifi BMWxxxxxx. Also when you go to flash a tune you have to be off the wifi and connected to data or your house's wifi to download the tune and then turn all that off and go back to BM3 wifi to flash. It is pretty annoying because your phone will sometimes switch to another wifi signal. I think that they were going to address this but I haven't downloaded any updates to see. Honestly, I usually use a E-net OBDII adapter since it is faster and less hassle. I can deal with the inconvenience of a wire for a few minutes.

Thanks for the response. That's what I'm thinking as well, but I can't get any clarification because Bootmod3's "tech support" consists of a bunch of crayon eating paint chip babies. I've asked for a replacement unit and they asked for a video of me connecting to the wifi adapter when the whole problem is that I CAN'T connect to the wifi adapter. Then when I said that I can't get a reading on my tach for ethanol content when I use the cruise control button on my steering wheel, their response was "you have to use the cruise control button on your steering wheel to see the ethanol reading on your tach". I almost threw my phone. 19 emails and they haven't even understood the problem I'm having yet...

Sorry to hear that, sounds very frustrating.
PTF has excellent customer support, but without a phone number and a person to talk to, the process can become much more frustrating than it needs to be.

I ended up blowing up on them by email and I guess they forwarded me to someone else who seems a little bit more intelligent than the others I've been dealing with, this guy was at least able to verbalize that he understands the issue and gave me a couple things to try so that we know where to go from there. But it took a long email with more than a couple words thrown in to express my extreme displeasure.
But yes, I'm leaving towards a faulty adapter. Their support had told me to put the little switch in the middle position and this new guy in talking to told me it's supposed to be to the side so now I have to re-try everything for him and send results lol. |

Hey man, I'm having the same exact issue as you. My ethanol reading is absolute zero and ethanol temp is -40 (which is default value means adapter <-> car communication issue). I have checked ALL the wires and connections. Adapter is blinking green so it is receiving power. Protuningfreaks rep so far has told me to try to update the adapter's firmware by connecting to the bootmod3 flex fuel sensor wifi. But when I connect to it and go to bm3 app -> hardware -> flex fuel kit, it says connected for like 10 secs then disconnects and connects back again (keeps dropping connecting/cant stay connected for >10 sec). Second of all, when it is connected there is no button or anything to update the firmware. Would love to know if you ever resolved this.

Go into idrive phone settings and hit disconnect. When I have CarPlay on I have to do this for some reason to get my phone to be able to connect to the adapter.
