DPS Photo Radar Vans - Watch Out
The Valentine 1 (and likely other radar detectors) gives very little warning to these new DPS Photo Radar Vans being used in AZ. The vans sit there and pick people off and take pics of their license plates as they pass. Have never heard of or seen this tactic before.

In Ontario, we had photo radar 8 or 9 years ago and they did the van on the side of the road trick. Traffic reports started to say where they were. |

They need to raise speed limits across the board. 45>50, 65>70, 70>75. Europe has much higher highway speed limits yet they have fewer accidents. We need to increase the difficulty of getting a license in the US.

+1 And by increase, we are talking SUBSTANTIALLY. In the UK it's actually tough to get your license. In Texas I got my license by getting a permit by being parent taught at 15 (reading a book and taking a simple test), then when I turned 16 I didn't even have to take a test, I was simply handed my license. It scares me that other kids are able to do this. Luckily my dad is a great driver and taught me well. Unlike most others' parents.

cops should get people for crime, not speeding, its stupid! and getting your license should be a lot harder, there are so many people who can't drive at all.

That radar only has an effective range of 300 feet. That's very short. You will be able to visually acquire the cop car and slow down well before you get into range. Plus, how is a gps detector going to help when they move the photo radar car around each day?
I'm skeptical until I read report from a company that's not trying to sell me something.

These van's are mostly in Scottsdale and Tempe, and the highway ones are rare (more often you see them on surface streets). The whole idea is stupid and in my mind more dangerous then having officers actually patrolling the streets.
Drivers do the exact same thing they do when approaching a speed camera - slam on their brakes, roll past at 0-5 over (the cameras are tripped at 11 over supposedly), then speed back up to 8-15 over. IMO, these fluctuating speeds are more of a safety hazard then a fast (but steady) speed. Yet there's an officer sitting at every construction zone. Glad they're being productive.

A quick off topic post, I have to say I really am enjoying nmulax's avatar.

I don't go to Scotsdale very often but I've seen these things all over the 202 this past week. And one in a school zone near my house. I think it's a good idea since there are never any cops around to catch the jackasses weaving through traffic at 100+
