Nissan say 370z will be targetting Boxter and Cayman
Just yesterday, we told you how Porsche engineers have accused Nissan of reporting an unrealistic Nurburgring lap time for its GT-R sports car. Today, it’s Nissan taking a jab at Porsche, with marketing boss Tetsuo Shimada saying the forthcoming 370Z will be a full-fledged competitor to the Porsche Cayman and Boxster, for a much lower price.
“With the 370Z, we are focusing more on the driving performance, as a pure driving sports car,” Shimada told Automotive News. -- I think it's a possibility. The 350z looks great and is only now starting to show it's age in certain colours like silver. I have doubts the 370z will look good based on spypics but I hope it turns out great. It is supposed to be shorter, lighter and have the 3.7 V6 from the G37 Coupe which means it'll be a better driver's car. Also, if the GT-R is anything to go by in the performance category the 370z should be great! What are your thoughts guys?

I dont like the headlights.
And they are making it smaller,,, wow, It was way more than snugg for me in 2003. Hey that ryhmed. Also the first time I read last year it was going to be 300-350 lighter, I thought for sure that was a misprint.. but they are still saying that. And the less than small trunk space really turned me off. But it is always nice to see new fresh cars. |

I hope Nissan beats em silly. The GTR crying that Porsche is doing is wack. Every magazine has the GTR faster than the 911Turbo and most of them have the GTR faster than the Gt3 on tracks. Porsche needs to quit crying and stop making incremental hp changes and get with it or they're going to find themselves not only behind Corvette and the GTR, but also behind the NSX and the Lexus. |

The new 370z will be a nice competitor I can say that with a target weight of 3010 lbs and a 3.7 V6, it will for sure give porshce a run for their money. The VQ series engine will deliever no doubt.

If they really get it under 3100 pounds, and it has at least 310hp, and the tranny turns out not to be as modophobic as before, I might look into it.
Nissan has a LOT to prove as far as the reliability and craftsmanship on that car. You think people b**** alot on e90post... head over to my350z and listen to the "my tranny died, my door is falling off, my seats are ripped, is this knob supposed to come off?"

My 350Z ran fine even w/ all the mods. My dealership didn't really say anything about the mods either. I just couldn't stand it as a DD (droning of exhaust + my coilovers).
I thought of getting one before my 335i, but I decided I wanted something nicer for DD and something w/ a little more room. Nissan has been pretty secretive about the photos; they've released a few lame teaser shots over the summer.

With the new 370Z coming, Nissan should just stick to the same formula which made the 350Z a hit at the time it came out.
Here's a summary for that formula: 1) Good or great handling car. 2) Enough power to make it fast in a straightline. 3) Competitive price. 4) Good looking design. If Nissan could work on the interior and the steering feel, it would be a added bonus and thus make it a almost complete car but, I don't expect them to do so as it will only upper the price. They have to keep the price down. As I said before, if they stick to the old formula, the 'Z' will succeed again

If you are talking about the ALMS, Porsche complained that BMW did not have a production V8 M3 for homologation.
