They shaved length from the overhang on the front and rear, and also from between the door and rear wheel arch. I think 350z had perfect proportions. It was always gonna be a hard design to beat but I still think the 370z has great body features and interior. Maybe in real-life the shorter dimensions will look good.

The 350z is already lighter than the 335i, this new 370z is supposed to be even lighter!
The new 3.7 V6 is also shorter than the I6TT which should give good weight distribution. It will also push out 330bhp (maybe even a little more) compared to 300bhp in the 335i. I think this new 370z will be VERY interesting

The 350Z had great lines and a good engine. Its problem, at least as far as I was concerned, was it lacked torque - E39 3L 4 doors would walk me on the straights. 330 hp is nice but it is a japanese rating and is very different from what BMW uses to rate HP/Torque.
The real test is mano e mano. In case you hadn't noticed, these are my opinions and are based on experience but subjective. |

Probably gonna be a smidge faster than a stock e92 in a straight line, and I'm sure it'll smoke it in the twisties.
However, don't think it'll beat a lightly modded e92 (new wheels that aren't shitty RFTs and an ECU tune).

Oh, and I'm not diggin the rear in these pics. The trunk lid looks too high, and in the 3rd pic it looks like the lip should be about 3 or 4 inches lower. The sides also lost that slight character line (you can see it in the 350z comparison), and I'm not crazy about license plate surroundings and the window kink (the window kink looks curvy/straight-edged, a very weird combo).
In regards to the front/rear overhangs, I think it's more of the angle it was shot with the camera. The 350z was shot further back with a stronger zoom, letting you see more of the overhangs. I'm sure they chopped off a bit for the 370z, but I'm sure it's not as much as it looks.
