you say bmw makes a far superior product to merc to you others may say differently i have both a merc and a bmw my merc has been far less problematic than both my bmws. also the m division cant seem to make an engine that can measure up to amgs. some prefer handling, some prefer raw power. some prefer luxury..some prefer boring interiors ![]()

a car for me is how connected i feel to the ride, how personal the experience is. i just don't get that whenever i drive a merc. all the bells and whistles in the world can't make up for the fact that bmw M is a much more fun drive than an amg. the engines in amg's are very impressive, yes. but hauling ass in a straight line is only so much fun. my m3, for example, i think it's the perfect proportion of engine power to how well the car can perform around a circuit. a little more torque would be nice, but too much and the engine power would begin to negate the superior handling characteristics. power slides are fun, noisy, and smell particularly nice, but without traction, you're not going to be peeling off very good lap times.

the new m3 are a bit on the chunky side...im not saying mercs are any lighter
i feel like the new m3s are getting further away from what they set out to be

as far as weight is concerned, it is a hefty bitch, but she performs like a champ. the natural progression of modern cars is more weight with more technology. on the other side of things, the Z4M weighs more than a Z3M, and i'm pretty sure it's safe to say the future ZxM model will probably weigh more than a Z4M, unless they start making body pieces out of composites or by stopping the furthering of technology. it's just the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

There's no question that the AMG depreciates faster than any M.
That being said -- that's what leases are for ![]() I could have gotten the C63 AMG and it would have been cheaper. But I didn't -- the M is more of a track car, which is what I was looking for -- (if comparing the two) but still practical. If I would have been in the market for a Sedan, I would have gone for the CTS-V, or the C63 (depending, based on driving them). Probably would have swayed towards the C63... so gorgeous.

i love how the M coupe transforms in the upper ends of the tach. as soon as the needle swings past 4k the noise just completely changes. i miss that from the old M3.
