Yuri's Night Party
One project I'm involved with at work is helping to organize a Yuri's Night party. From the main website: "Yuri’s Night is a celebration of humanity’s achievements in space. Each April 12, people from around the world come together to mark the anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s first flight into space."
The one we had last year at work (in the Washington DC area - Maryland) was essentially a toned-down college party - band, DJ, beer, food, some educational activities, etc from 8:00 pm to 1:00 am. 650-700 people. For our party we promote it as an outreach activity, so mostly college students attend. If there's a party going on in your area, (and I have no idea what that party will be like), it might be worth checking out if you have nothing going on that night. You can contact the specific party organizer to get more details. http://yurisnight.net/main/
