What do you mean by fortune? What's your budget? Are you looking for a good point-and-shoot or DSLR?

Get a Xti, gives you a bigger screen and its not that much compared to the XT. But amazon or craigslist is the way to go, however, if you are planning to buy it off of craigslist, you should get somebody that is familiar with photography so you dont get ripped off or anything.. Good luck!

As compare to your budget as per my opinion i would suggest u to go for Canon Powershot G10 as its very demanding now a days in market. I have Canon Powershot G10 and i didn't find any problem till as i have taken it before 4 months from UK.

Canon Powershot G10 is good camera and it has also good features and reviews to compare other digital camera reviews in market here is some features as under which is i realized in last 4 months.

The Canon PowerShot G10 is one of those high performance compacts that enabled us to capture a broad range of shots in many difficult shooting environments. Canon PowerShot G10's generous 3-inch LCD, 14.7 Mega pixel, 5X optical zoom

The Good:-
  • Generous 3-inch LCD, Good image quality, Decent lens
  • Easy to Keep Clean, Strong Construction, Easy Setup
  • Decent product quality
  • Acceptable usability
  • Superior appearance
  • Functional and fun shooting design
  • Great enthusiast-oriented feature set

The Bad:-
  • Heavy and a tad bulky,Small grip
  • Size still too big, size not compact
  • Should be a little faster shot to shot.
  • The viewfinder is poor, but as I can't use it under water it worries me not!

If you want to get more details about Canon Powershot G10 then you can get from http://alatest.com/reviews/digital-c...-64511170,147/. Those who want an everyman camera that still captures beautiful images will be all about the Canon PowerShot G10. Price: $400
