Haha I'm doing some FAS/FAZ right now too. Jeep, as far as getting started in the industry, most of the large wirehouses are very aggressive in hiring young aggressive talent. If that is the way you want to go, you have to work your butt off. The success rate is about 2/10. Get ready to cold call, reverse dial, and work 60 hour weeks for the first year and a half unless you have alot of rich family and friends. It's pretty hard to give advice on how to "get started" day trading, but if you want to go solo, call around some brokerage firms and tell them you're interested in becoming an active trader or a day trader. They'll usually give you a few trades for free. Read WSJ, watch Bloomberg, find a good day trading tool/chart, start subscribing to some newsletters like PIMCO, David Darst, etc. and read!
