BMW M6 at Mosport + Lambo fun
Hey guys,
It has been awhile. Seems summer, we spend more time playing outside than surfing boards....as it should be. Last Monday, Budds BMW rented Mosport for a track day and invited their ///M customers. Mosport is one of the original Can-Am tracks. Super fast and deceptively simply but requires balls of steel to run fast. The program was well run, as usual. The cadre of instructors were great.... Short of the M schools run by BMW USA, you won't find better instructors. For example, I had David Empringham as my personal coach. I am finally getting pretty comfortable with my M6. With the almost stock M6 with no R-compound tires, I am within 8-10 seconds of my race car times.... I am finally into the mid to high 40's with a production car!! I must admit that it has taken a long time to get use to the weight and power. I hit 235 kph going up the back straight which has a steep grade....even David Empringham was amused at the power of these cars. The fun part of the day was running with my friend, Steve, in his Lambo Gallardo Superleggera. He is also a fellow M6 owner but brought up his Lambo and his 3 sons. I playfully goaded him into running the Lambo by asking "whether he got free manicures when he bought his trailer queen". He dutifully got goaded and we went for a run. In one run, he took out one son and I took another in the video chase car. That thing sounded amazing. For those who know Mosport, corner 5b is critical for a run up the straight and the Lambo with its R compounds and AWD got a much better jump out of the corner with the M6 reeling in the car near the end of the straight. I ran my fastest times by 7 seconds without the Lambo in my way These photos were taken by Lucas Scarfone, a great guy and enthusiast pro photographer. You guys are only getting low res versions. If you are in the GTA and need a good photographer please contact him at (905) 388-4329 / lucas@scarfonephoto.com / www.scarfonephoto.com Anyway, I still need to get more track time.....I signed up for the Advanced M School again at VIR on Sept 24th. Join me. Let's rip up VIR. (The photos have my license plate and me removed for privacy reasons)

Yeah.... I thought this was a near invisible mod but everyone seems to notice it.

What race car do you drive and what are your times in your race car? I also love Mosport.......a high speed, smooth flowing track with only one really tight turn (5b). Have tracked there a number of times myself.

Yes the M6 with street rubber, in the 1:40s (high). I think a really good driver can get 1:40 flat in the M6, consistently. I had a tricked out 944 Turbo. My fastest lap was a 1:35 in that car but consistently floated at the 1:40 mark. But that was years ago when I was a better driver, good rubber and cars weighing less than 3000 pounds. I need more seat time to learn drive the M6 better. The car "feels" light but it isn't. The power is awesome. In MDM, traction control stays on from 5b to 6 even playing with the throttle. When David Empringham was coaching, he was commenting that the car felt like it had more than 500 hp I just need to work out how to get that 500 hp+ around a corner a second a corner faster. Cheers...
