FOTA denies compromise deal is close.
FIA president Max Mosley said at Silverstone on Sunday that he felt the teams and the governing body were 'very close' to a resolution that would avert the threat of a rival series in 2010. However, Formula 1 teams have rejected suggestions that they are near to a compromise deal with the FIA. They insist they are committed to the breakaway plans. FOTA is planning to hold a meeting next Thursday to begin formal selection of championship promoters, technical regulations and a calendar.

Renault boss Flavio Briatore believes the time for teams doing a deal with the FIA over future rules has now passed. "We have tried to compromise, we have opened the door, we have tried everything," he said. "We have had the door closed in our face.”
With members of the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) scheduled to get together later this week to discuss the next step in their plans for a breakaway series, Briatore is adamant that the only thing on their mind is getting the new championship ready.

I couldn't be happier about the FOTA series and no more of the Max and Bernie bs..
However, will we get to see the new FOTA series on American TV? That would be my number one concern if Speed is contractually obligated to continue to air F1 (soon to be Formula Cosworth), then we may get nothing !! That would suck |

Looks like the only chance FOTA teams will return to F1...is either Max steps down as FIA chairman....or bend over (as he always for the prostitudes) to accept FOTA terms....

That's why after Alonso won his 2nd title I just gave up on F1. The stupid ruling on the mass-damper effect and the penalty in Italy *felt* like they were the FIA's gift to Ferrari.
F1 has become too much hype with too little substance. It doesn't help that only one or two teams have a chance of winning either a drivers' or constructors' championship.

Hell it is the only thing making this year interesting. I mean we all know who is going to win the championship at this point.
I'm thinking I may be able to see the Button crowned when I'm at Spa at the end of August. Anyway, it is becoming increasingly clear that the teams are just tired of dealing with Max. Whatever the reason for this, and no matter how you feel about Max, he has a point. The F1 Championship is owned and organized by the FIA. The teams apply to be let into the competition every year, and agree to follow the rules laid out by the FIA. So Max is within his rights to say "These are the rules and if you don't like them too bad." He has already said that if there is no agreement they will likely cancel the F1 championship for next year. However, this is very bad business. This is why Bernie will ultimately throw Max under the bus. I personally think the FIA is a broken organization that makes no sense, and Max is a big part of that problem. So maybe this is a necessary culling process.

In May 2008 Mosley stated that it was his intention not to seek re-election in October 2009. However, now he says: “in light of the attack on the mandate you have entrusted to me, I must now reflect on whether my original decision not to stand for re-election was indeed the right one.”
A defiant Max Mosley has told the FIA that he now has no option but to consider standing once again as president, in light of what he sees as an 'unjustified' attack on the governing body by Formula 1 teams and manufacturers.

If gets re-elected I predict FOTA will indeed break away.
I really think Max has gone round the bend here. He is not behaving like a business man anymore. He is really taking things to a personal level that is counter productive. The manufactures just don't seem to want to work with him anymore. I'll be really curious to see if my prediction is correct. I really thought he was done last year, but he survived.

Max Mosley may find he has backed himself into a corner when the FIA world motor sport council meets to discuss the future of Formula One and, possibly, their president. Mosley engaged reverse gear on Sunday when he suddenly dropped legal action against the renegade teams but, if the meeting is attended by Luca di Montezemolo, the head of Ferrari may remind the FIA of its president's unpredictable and sometimes questionable behavior.

They should use Long Beach instead of Indianopolis, unless there is some deal that only IRL and the ALMS get to use it.

However, I think FOTA won this one. It sounds like they got everything they wanted. The buget is the way they wanted and Max is gone. So much for the FIA not giving in. I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall at that meeting.
