Want a modern interpretation of the e30 m3/ bmw 2002, look no further than the 2009 128i and 135i respectively. Ultimate driving machines.

Have you driven either if those cars or did you just read that in a magazine?

the 1 Series is a more powerful E46 coupe. over weight with suspect suspension and tons of understeer.

The E30 M3 is an amazing car, I love mine and would NEVER part with it. However by today's standards it is a bit 'lacking'. Pit it against any automobile from the late 80s early 90s and it easily won hands down in all respects, power, handling, braking, road feel, etc.

However, today in 2009, the E30's S14 2.3 liter 16 valve is just not as exciting to the general public. See today the general public craves torque and eye popping G force acceleration. Today the general public does not relish the meticulous balance of the E30 and the skill required to 'manage your momentum'. See by today's standards the E30 M3 is slow and antiquated. To drive it fast is an art, you have to be able to be fast in and fast out of the corner. The newer cars have huge HP ratings so they can afford to be slow in fast out. To compensate in an E30 you need to be on the knife edge non-stop.

However, that is the JOY of this car. The amazing handling! Driving a proper E30 M3 is like sex without a condom, you feel and enjoy EVERYTHING !!!! It overloads your senses with the screams of the engines 4 individual butterflys sucking in air on a rapid accent to 7800 rpm, the solid connected feel of the steering with the road, the menacing growl of the exhaust, the vibrations through the shifter, the firm brakes, all of which stir you to push the car harder and harder. In the E30 M3, there is no such thing as a tranquil easy drive to the grocery store. This car is like the miniture devil on your right shoulder kicking you to break each and every traffic law.

It is intoxicating!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love my 135. But, it will never be as legendary as the E30 M3.....a car that was ahead of its time and defined the breed.

Sounds like my kind of car. I always like to beat the champs as an underdog.
