Going to Cancun for a week. Sightseeing advice.

So my gf and I are going to Cancun this Friday for 1 week. I'd love to hear some sightseeing advice from anyone that has been there... places to see/avoid.

Are there any cool places to visit other than the Mayan Ruins, Underground Rivers, and Beach?

Thanks.

there are places like spu-ha and xel-ha. one of those is fun but i forgot which one. the ruins get kinda old especially when your walking in 100 degree weather. try to find a good cynote to go in.

oh and if you can get over to cozumel for a day its a really nice island.

Che chen itza is truly amazing. It's a full day. Must see.

Xel-Ha- pronounced Shell Ha is very cool too if you like snorkeling.

Go for a full day there. Half day is not enough.

Cenote's are also breathtaking. I did a rappel down into one. 100'. Wear a diaper as the safety factor is not there. Eight Mexicans on the other end of my rope pulled me out.

All-tournative is an excellent company to book with if you can. "Jungle Crossing"

Don't leave the resort areas. The city is disgusting as hell and full of criminals.

Hmm..
Went downtown. Had a nice (safe day). Also try tulum

I remembered one of the things that happened downtown. The wife was buying a silver necklace and getting a couple of pieces removed to be made into earrings and I was talking to one of the other guys in a nearby stall.

I had just bought a 3 pack cohibas and not a few mins later the guy from the other stall asked if I needed something to smoke. I said - I just got something. But he was not meaning the same thing as I just purchased.

Should have taken him up on it.

Thanks for all the tips, keep em coming!

Didn't know about Xel-Ha. That sounds like a lot of fun! We'll definitely go there one of the days.

Wow! You guys are only 2 hotels away from us. We'll be staying at the Royal Sands. The Ritz Carlton is in between our hotel and yours. We have a 2 bedroom apartment/suite (gf and I along with her bro and his girl). Maybe meet up for drinks at some point? Will this be your first time in Cancun?

definitely go see Tulum and Chichen-itza. I suggest renting a car and doing it on your own. The highways in the area are pretty decent.

Yes first time in Cancun. Don't know about the GP. Are you familiar with GP? We are following some friends and they are staying at the GP. Is it sketchy? Reviews on the travel sites are all over the place on the GP. RC is more my style LOL. Drinks sound good. We'll have to figure something out.

That and the underground river were pretty much all I remember about Cancun when I went. Cancun was cool but it was my least favorite destination out of all.

-Ride the bus if you need to just travel down the strip its only 60cents. The taxis are expensive!
-Downtown for the drinking and the clubbing. Go to Cocobongo! It was a very entertaining experience.
