Maserati GranCabrio

Maserati’s lineup had been without a convertible since the Spyder ended production about two years ago. That drop-top had signaled Maserati’s successful return to the lucrative North American market nearly a decade ago.

Maserati says that the GranCabrio will be powered by the same 4.7-liter V8 that does duty in the GranTurismo. Its canvas top eschews the now-common folding metal hardtop for increased luggage space and for a visual link to past Maserati drop tops. The Italian automaker says that the 115.8-inch wheelbase, shared with the coupe, is the longest such wheelbase on a convertible.

The GranCabrio is set to go on sale early next year. Check back here in September for Leftlane’s live coverage of the Frankfurt Motor Show, including the GranCabrio’s official debut.

It seems like only yesterday that Maserati was pretty much a joke. Now they're making stuff like this

It was so catchy.
