Aussie Holden coming to the US as the Pontiac G8

Take a look at our VE Commodore. Today I heard that GM's Bob Lutz confirmed it is heading to the US as the Pontiac G8....

Yeah, I've been following this for last 6 months now... They were first thinking of bringing it as the new Grand Prix, but it looks like it'll be G8. I really like that car... I would seriuosly consider this vs a 5 series, if the quality was there... Jamie, how do these look on the road? Have you seen one up close?

It'd be promising if GM shows euro restraint in the car's inevitable repackaging/restyling to fit in Pontiac's lineup/suit perceived US market bold tastes. Encouragingly, Pontiac has moved away from the body-cladding heavy philosophy of yore but I still think they didn't do such a swell job with the repackaging/positioning of the Monaro into the GTO. They also seem to miss the mark on the proper marketing of these awesome aussie cars.

KL2DC, you are absolutely correct. I'm wondering what the pricing will be.... If it's price is close to the GTO (Monaro) it could be a hit.
The hard part would be explaining to my wife why I want a Pontiac... After all the years of me smacktalking GM, It'd be very challenging.

I went to the holden dealer today in Sydney, because im really interested in owning this car a my second ride to 335. The car in person is so much better, then in pictures. The ss-v varient we have here is very nice all muscle car feel. The pics don't do it justice.

Voltron to answer part your question, its not near the quality of bmw 5 series.
This car can't be compared to bmw's. (possibly the drive feel) Its a typical muscle car that has a massive improvement in handling and safety. if i could compare it to bmw it would be best compared against a 3series.(handling wise) performance of this car is very good.

Lutz indicated that they don't want to repeat the Monaro/GTO failure, they said they priced it wrong. They want the car to be about $25k

They look brilliant in the flesh. So much better than the pictures. It is the best Aussie car I have ever seen.

omg that spoiler and interior is sooooooooooooo nasty and looks so cheap. The front end loks the old front end on the subaru legacy.

The SS-V interior is meant to be cheap, it is a cheap car. The front end follows the VZ predecessor car and the Sub came out with the design after Holden launched it - Sub was briefly in the GM empire remember.

Anyway the car does impress in the flesh, but it isn't a BMW, it is built to a price for a mass market. It does this job exceedingly well, as the Commodore line has been the top selling car in the Aussie market for more than 7 years now.

The designer of this vehicle - Mike Simcoe is now GM's global Director of Design for Passenger Vehicles.

Oh thats not bad at all. If they offer it less than 30k USD than i might even think of getting one as another car.

25k.. omg thats as much as a new civic si. Your going to have a lot of fast cars on the street.

I think they will probably end up selling it for around 30k-35k USD as not too piss off any c6 owners.

It will be interesting to see what the final price is. Lutzy kind of let the cat out of the bag one month early before GM and Holden had time to make a considered statement.... watch this space.
