2007 525i, yuck!
Took my '06 330i in for service, they gave me a brand new 07 525i as a loaner. It has 40 miles. Anyway, what a dog, I miss my 330i already!!

The 525i is now a joke. It has even less horsepower than the entry level 3 series...the 328i.
Next year BMW is correcting the situation and replacing both the 525i and 530i with the 528i and 535i. Until that happens the 525i and 530i just make no sense. |

i've driven the 525i and i loved it..but yeah i agree that power is lacking, 530i should be the minimum entry level for e60..

If you get the 525 or the 530 they are both extremely underpowered. Originally I was going to get another 530 when I traded in my 03 530. After driving the 06 530 I was very dissapointed, and had to step up to the 550i

In Norway we get a dieselpowered 520d with 150 HP, if the 525i and 530i are underpowered, what this diesel then???

I have also gotten 07 525i as well and the ride is way too soft and a bit slow for me after getting used to my 330i.

Typical American mentality that bigger is better and that you have to have an expensive car to "maintain" your social standing.
For 95% of people a fully loaded, debadged 525i would be just fine. People will still think it is a nice car, and you can get better fuel economy. The 520d is sweet, however, I would rather have a 320dT, but any diesel will do. |

there's just no throttle response you got to wait for that big tank to get rollin, not my cup of tea, since we can't go 150 here in the states I have to satisfy my need for speed with get up and go-ness.

i had a 525xi yesterday as a loaner. first thing i noticed was the wheel, seemed huged compared to my car. also the idrive screen is way smaller.
i like the small sporty feel of my car more than the 5. haven driven the current gen 3,5,6,7 the 5 would be my last choice. |

I agree, that 525 is really sluggish. But consider yourself lucky. I was at Irvine BMW and I saw a gentleman taking his 650 in for service and they gave him a white corolla for a loaner. I got shafted as well with a toyota avalon. They need to get some more BMW loaners down there, I would have been happy with that 525 =P

lol, why WOULDNT it feel slower? It's already a smaller engine then the 330i then on top of that it's heavier. Common sense and physics should point this out before one even takes a seat inside of the car.

I had a 525 once, and same story.... very underpowered. Very ugly. Very big. I actually looked up the weight when I got to work and expected it to be 5Klbs+. What a dog. Only a little better with the 530, but still much to be desired. And iDrive without nav is an affliction. I love iDrive/Nav in my 335i, but without nav, I'd prefer hard buttons. The dealer is doing BMW a disservice by even loaning the 525/30 models out to current owners. If I was thinking of moving up in size, I wouldn't have even thought of the 5'er on my last purchace.

TwiBlueG35 If you read the post you'd know I was driving a 2007 525i. It is very underpowered. I got my car back last night, leaving the parking lot was a thrill, I couldn't believe the difference in pick up, night and day.
