Only the old indirect injection diesels were BMW engines from the old 325/525tds.

Mini does not use BMW engines.

It used to use Chrysler-build engines. Now they use engines designed by Peugeot in a jv with BMW (shared costs). The final level of engineeering to tailor for each manufacturer's needs is done by each manufacturer, so that the mini 4 cyls engine will be tweaked by BMW differently than the 206's engine for example.

Currently, and except for some kustom coach builders (ascari) only RR uses the engines designed and build by BMW as far as I know.

That's not true, they're all real carmanufacturers. Many of the oldfashioned custom coachers don't exist anymore (perhaps a few here on the continent, and in the US), cause the ones I've mentioned don't build coaches on BMW chassis's.

Maybe you think they're coachbuilders because the ones I've mentioned don't build cars in big numbers, but they're all true carmanufacturers.

Alpina is unless tuners like Hartge, AC Schnitzer, Breyton a real carmanufacturer. The cars they produce sharethe same factory as BMW, but nothing more. Did you know that the 4.6is V8 and 4.8is V8 of the old X5 (E53) is developed by Alpina and not by BMW

A perfect example of coachbuilding with a BMW as base car is Fisker Coachbuilding. Fisker (designer of BMW z8 and some Aston Martins) did make another exclusive coach on basis of the BMW 6er and now called it Latigo CS: coach different, chassis and drivetrain are the same as the 6er (M6 or 650i).

Thanks for the info. I was under the (mistaken) impression that Wiesman and Ascari were using OEM chasis and engines and simply designed a body and interior etc. around it.
