And I wholeheartedly agree about seeing what else is out there. Again, you may decide SoCal is the right place for you, but you can't really know that until you experience as much as you can out there. |

In 2004 relocated from FL to AZ for a job.
In 2005 relocated from AZ to Dallas TX for a job. Relocated from Dallas (back) to Florida for a more interesting job within the (same) company in 2007. Relocated (again) with the same company two weeks ago to Prague, Czech Republic for yet another, more interesting and a great promotion opportunity... We'll see where we go from here... Have to have fun before kids get too old... PS, forgot to mention a small detail -- born and raised in Serbia Last edited by DFW_M; 05-22-2010 at 12:09 PM.. |

Born and raised in Rome, Italy.
Moved to Miami, FL in 2000 with my parents and brothers (I was 18). Moved to Atlanta, GA in 2007 for work. I can only appreciate the opportunities that this country has given me and I feel very fortunate to be here. Right now 90% of my friends in Italy have no real job and are struggling due to the abundant corruption and nepotism. There is no way I would have had a house with 2 car garage, crotch rocket, bimmer and various other toys if I was still in my homeland. ...yet I still miss it terribly. If it weren't for a very good Wing Chun school I found here in Georgia it is very likely I'd have been back in Italy by now. Good luck with your decision, chances are that as long as you don't cross the pond you'll be allright. -Walter

Well not the same as a job but similarly I relocated for school (IL to AZ), no family, no friends, just signed the letter and went. It's tough but, at least if you're me, a good experience you won't trade for anything. If the right opportunity presents itself, take it while you can.

Interesting replies here. I graduated with my BS last Spring and will get my MS in Fall. And then MBA is estimated at summer of 2012 (hence a couple of years).
My alumni network is pretty good. Previous grads of the program still keep in touch with the professors and the professors email us of openings, which are all over the country..ie CDC in Atlanta. Some of the professors make fun of the students for not trying to go outside of the bubble, lol. I have something planned after I get my MBA, hopefully that pans out well. The downside to my major (BS and MS) is that it is only applicable in more developed nations. |

IMO you would feel the same way no matter where you move to after you've spent some time there. At first you would feel good because it's a new environment. However, after getting used to everything, things might become boring. That of course depends on how long it takes you to get used to things. I'm kinda tired right now so I might not be able to clearly put my thoughts into words right now. Though I would suggest that you should go to wherever it is you wanna go and spend a few months there to see how you like it.

Traveled the world 2 times over in the miltary. Went to school in my hometown. New job prospect will most likely relocate me to big cities all over the US or out of country. I'm okay with it. It's my life and welfare that's at stake and I must accomodate it in order to prepare for a family. No one will stop me from doing what I must do. Sacrifice now for a better tomorrow. That's my motto.

I work for a large US Semiconductor company. Took over the region in the North Central East Europe (Czech R, Slovakia, Poland and the Baltics) maniging the Sales and (dotted line) Engineering team... Loving the job and the city so far. Missing my family that will join me in 2 weeks, once kids' school is finished in FL... |
