The one this week swallowed a 3 story building so I'm sure that gives them a good head start. Then again, the picture in the OPs link was taken AFTER it swallowed the building... :\

I saw a comment elsewhere that stated a similar hole in another country was filled by first pouring a layer of cement to cap the bottom of the hole and then filling the rest with gypsum. A lot of gypsum.
