Gotta race an E39 M5 Help
OK guys its crunch time, my old M5 board buddies are after me and my 335i, still stock on my part, bit of mostly cosmetics on their side, CAI's etc. One of the cars is a 99 model and the other a 2001 model.
I have said rolling 0-100kmh and from dig to 100kmh. I hear the best way for step is manual into 1st gear from dig then left foot brake holding revs at 1700 then floor it with DSC etc off and slip into Sports mode for second gear grab. What chance do you reckon I have? I will get my M5 out this weekend with a buddy to see how it fares against my 335i, anybody got any experience against the M5 for real? Will ps THIS WILL BE VIDEO'D |

My co-worker has a E39 M5 and I have no problem beating him with my 335i.

I'm sure you will be OK, but in case you fail to beat him, just tell him that you have a problem with your fuel pump...

Please post the video! I am very familiar with the e39 M5 and would love to know how the 335i compares.

550 is nothing compared to the M5, not worth turning out. I have had my E39 M5 for almost 3 years and have never had a 3 series get near me, although most dont even try. I dont know how it will turn out, the guy I will go up against is a complete asylum arab, he has done 2 clutches in the last 6 months! The thing that worries me is the lack of grip on the runflats, really suffer under extreme acceleration where the M5's 275/35/18's stick like glue, even with the dsc off the pilot 2's are awesome. My only hope is that he dumps the gas full on and loses traction. I have been thinking about just doing the auto sport mode, some say it is better than the manual, although I read that as max torque runs out at 5,800 it is a good idea to change gear manually at those revs, any ideas? And oh yes it will be well documented so look forward to the video guys. My M5 has a brand new clutch fitted this week so we will see how it compares to the 335i. Basically I should lose to the big growling V8, but I am hoping my psychology skills help, I have been winding the young guy up for about a month now, I expect him to blast his foot down hard and lose control, I will ensure I am well away from his car, don't want to be sideswiped by his back-end. Ok guys took my M5 and the 335i (aka the upstart) out for some fun this morning, had my buddy driving the M5 and I drove the 335i. Tried all different sorts of take-offs and I can safely say THE RUNFLATS ARE CR4P, turned the DSC off both cars and they both sat on the same spot for a split second then we got going, the M5 has a brand new clutch only fitted yesterday so had to take it easy, but have to say that the upstart rocks and blew the E39 away.Should have my race with the other guy tomorrow and will get the video posted, but needless to say I am not worried at all, found the best was just to hit it from a dig in DS and go for it, bit of a pause while the engine got some momentum but then it was bye bye M5:rocks:
