Rolls-Royce 201EX
Taking it's lead from the 200EX - Experimental variation of the Ghost , The finishing touches are being put on the next experimental Rolls-Royce 201EX which will be a cabrio variant of the highly successful Ghost which if you put your order in today you will have it in 2012. Which tells you how popular and demanded the Ghost is. The next logical step will be the first of two possible Ghost variants namely mimicing the highly successfull Phantom series with a Coupe and a Drophead coupe. Although the term Drophead might not be used to term the Cabrio. A more traditional Rolls-Royce term could return and it is something being looked at as it follows form on a similar predecessor to the Ghost. The Ghost Cabrio follows the same idea as the Phantom Drophead Coupe and Cabrio with more individual detail around the front end of the car. The 201EX gets a more dynamically raked appearance , pushed back further to the windshield than the Ghost. The headlights become smaller (like the phantom) and a tapered into the corners with the indicators sitting under the "ledge" of the headlights in a similar shape. The "Greek Temple" grille remains the same interpretation from the Ghost. The wider intake of the Ghost is replaced by two seperate intakes below the headlights and indicators. The rear end and interior remains from the standard car , the front doors open and close like the Phantom Drophead hinged at the rear. The overall shape conforms to being more leaner than the Ghost. Inside seating for four continues. Engines will include the standard V12 as found on the Ghost but BMW are working on a V8 derived from the current V8 to introduce on the Ghost , and something else... The Experimental model of the Ghost cabrio is coming soon. Rolls-Royce Roadster. The name as it suggests is not a Cabrio but a Roadster in demand for something intimate , asked for by Phantom Drophead customers. Being heavily discussed and investigated with solutions pointing at Using the same platform and wheelbase architechture as the next BMW 6er , and a specially developed alluminium space frame for the body , The Roadster is aimed at customers who have needs for two seats only. This could also be the first Rolls-Royce model with a folding aluminium hardtop (BMW Have one developed but not being appointed) to further enhance the appeal as the car is aimed at emerging luxury market customers. Styling aims to distinguish the car from both the Ghost and Phantom and their respective variants. But will interpret design cues from the Ghost Cabrio. engines will be a V8 and the V12 as the derived V12 can fit within the engine cradle of the new BMW 6er. Although talk is of doing something "different" with the powerplants for the Roadster project to distinguish them from the other cars. |
