What happens to iphone 4 when AT&T Launches 4G network?
Are those of us who just recently purchased the new iphone 4 and still have over 16months left on the contract just basically screwed and stuck with old 3G technology for the next 2 years while others are getting 4G speeds?
I heard from the att rep when i purchased the phone last week that the current iphone 4 is 4G network compatible and will be able to get receive the new speed without having to buy a completely new "iphone 4GS" or whatever they call the next release. he tells me all u will need is software update and u can run on 4G speeds. anyone have thoughts on this? or know if the current iphone4 really is compatible with 4G network? |

Are you sure AT&T will have LTE rolled out in your area by then? I'd be willing to bet they won't. By the time it matters, your current contract will be up.
Also, if it is just a matter of software, then I'm sure there will be an accessible option. I don't know the answer to that particular question though. |

who ever told you that non sense obviously doesnt know what they are talking about. 4G is part of LTE, both Verizon and AT&T are switching over to this, regardless no iPhone will work on LTE, is a completely diff baseband chip, impossible to resolve w/ new firmware
Verizon promised to have 30 football cities w/ LTE by the end of the year, while AT&T has it something similar but for summer '11. and judging from previous experience, Apple isnt gonna jump on LTE until its well established. On the other hand, all new iPhones w/ have dual baseband chips for CDMA/GSM however, AT&T is converting their major cities to HSDPA+ or 3.5G, which the iPhone 3GS and 4 are compatible w/. maybe thats what they were referring to |

Sell your iPhone 4 and do an early upgrade. I've done this every year since the first iPhone and made 100 dollars every year. Just keep your phone in good condition. The iPhone 4 is worth about $600. If they want to charge $500 (just setting a made up price because they always change it) for an upgrade you've easily upgraded and pocketed $100.
