Sad but true, I think my next car is going to be a lease return E55.
Holy crap, I had one in front of me at lunch today and that thing muscled away from me like I was a 200k mile clapped out hyundai. Honestly, as much as I like it, I don't really spend as much time cornering as I need to make a BMW shine ... most times the roads are just clogged with retards. I'm starting to be drawn toward the luxo muscle barge.

Yup, M5 > E55 imo. M5 + chip = 997 Turbo fast.

yeah well i am a bmw at heart kind of guy...and from the m5 owners i know and i have gone up against in my mom's s55 i have taken them all down from anything..then again i took down a 997 911 turbo from a dig once too all the way to 110-120...her car just seems like a low 4 upper 3 sec 0-60 and it is rated at about 4.5 but damn it feels soo much faster than my buddies o6 wrx sti and night and day from my dad's old 2002 s55 it is a 5.3 sec 0-60...but the new one the s63 they are getting in 5 weeks should be awesome though not any faster really i think but should be sick none the less...still way way more psyched about MY 335.. it is on a carrier leaving in 2 days for a dealer as we speak so in one weeks time so long e34 dinan 540 hello e92 335!!! and i have read a lot of m5 owners getting spanked by e55's and e63's a lot as well not just in person...but on a track it is a totally different story!!!! M5 all the way!!!! push that M button and it's all over!!!
but i fear this might be the same with the new m3 and the new c63..though detuned on the express way in a straight line it will probably win...but on a track new m3 all the way!!! only you have to ush the power button think the M button is gone less i missed it from the steering wheel.. ahhh beamer we need more power!!!! though i am quite happy but think cars such as the m5 and m6 should beat the amg's since they are supposed to be sportier and more for the drive but those amg's are just filthy fast!!! still beamer fan for life!!! ________ justin bieber fans ________ medical marijuana dispensaries ________ SHEMALE XXX ________ Colorado Dispensary Last edited by purplewidow; 09-11-2011 at 06:30 AM.. |

Hmmmm.... As often as M cars and AMG cars are compared, I truly believe they are made to cater to different people. M cars are naturally more sporty whereas AMG cars are more luxurious with a sporty feel, so in the end which direction are you leaning towards?
Do you want a road going luxury sports car that is going to lean towards being a sports car, meaning you're going to sacrifice road noise, smooth ride, etc.? Or do you want a luxury car that is tuned to run with alot of sports cars on the road, but is geared towards luxury? Meaning you are going to sacrifice a manual transmission, cornering ability, etc. for the sake of luxury and a smooth ride? All in all, they are all GREAT cars and faster than more than 90% of the cars on the road. Owning and driving an E63, I had no idea Mercedes could make a car that feels more like a BMW than a Mercedes. AMGs are GREAT cars and defies what usually comes to mind when thinking of a Mercedes. I have not personally driven the new M5, but do have an M6 on order coming in around July. I'll let you know then. As far as the 911 Turbo, completely different category. That is a purebred sports car with an extremely harsh ride, and is extremely fast. Although it does have 2 bucket seats in the back, good luck fitting anyone back there without having their neck strained. It does lower 3 sec 0-60. |

If I'm buying big, I'm buying luxury. I mean, I understand where people are coming from with the M5 but it just seems silly to me. It's just too hardcore for it's size and weight so it misses the mark. Think about it from this perspective, 8000rpm V-10, flappy paddle F1 gearbox, ultra tight suspension all wrapped up in 4000lbs of pig lard. It's like a fat chick in a g-string.
M3 sedan I can understand. M5 I've never really gotten the point since it's big and heavy. And if I'm not having fun cornering I might as well be comfy and be able to go fast in a straight line. Plus, I doubt I can get an M5 off lease for around 45k like I can an E55. |

I chose the 335i over a used E55. The E55 does look great, and has a beast of an engine which easily can be made even more powerful than it is stock.
In the end, though, the 335i won out for the handling + power combination. And the E55 would have been used, and the 335i new. Watch out for poor reliability and high repair costs...if you get one, make sure you get or purchase an extended warranty. I received an online quote of ~$4k for a +5 year/75K bumper-to-bumper extended warranty which easily would have been worth it as part of the purchase. Now, if my budget could stretch to a new CLS55, game over! Even though it still doesn't handle real well, everything else on that car is over the top. OK, they don't make them new anymore , I'd still consider a CLS63. My next car might be the new c63.... IMHO, AMG > M5 except on the N'ring. |
