Yeah I haven't done much reading on the Nikkor lenses until yesterday. Apparently that particular lens is a decent bargain due to price versus IQ and sharpness(surprisingly according to reviews of shots taken at 300mm). I guess most of us on here are Canon users and our assumptions are based on what is available for them.

that's pretty much the issue

there are some pretty shitty canon lenses, but then the ones that are good, are really good.
