A very good xDrive Demonstration Video by BMW.

Click the link or right click and "Save Target As...." to download in iTunes/QuickTime format.

This does not stimulate any real life situations that I can think of at all...

Poor Lexus though, lmao!

Holy shit is the above demonstration weaksauce. They neglected to throw in a Subaru to see how it would perform compared to the rest. Besides... they chose a rear wheel to have traction? Try doing it with a front wheel and you'll see a different result.

Just sayin...

^^NOW that's a better test.

I've seen it before.....

What do you think the different result would be?

xDrive has positive power engagement in the transfer case via mechanically actuated clutch packs and will send full power to the front axle with no slippage. Once the system detected slippage of one wheel it would clamp the brake on the spinning wheel which will send power to the one on pavement. The result would be exactly the same.

I guess it all depends on the definition of really living. I've been in spots where only one wheel had traction more times than I can count.

Mostly in places where you were your own Roadside Assistance.
