one student in our wood shop instinctively tried to stop the saw with his thumb one time. lucky enough he didn't loose his finger. we get people cut their hands/fingers with mat knife and exacto blades in architecture though.
our school's wood shop's rule is to have at least three people around when using the table saw. one person cutting and the other one spotting. the third person is there so someone can call for medical assistance while the other stays with the injured. we also use push sticks so we lessen the chances of cutting our fingers/hands.
