Good to hear that you were able to get rid of the clicking sound. Can you please link to the friction discs that you got for our G42 platform?

Thanks!

Thanks! So you got 4 of them or did you just target the front turning wheels? I feel like the ticking is coming more on the driver's side when I have the wheel turned all the way to the right.

Yes, we're running a pre-order on them right now that will give 15% off + free shipping to addresses in the lower 48 US states. More info here: https://apexwheels.com/wheels/forged...112mm-or-666mm

Would any of the 18” options for the new wheels fit in 2024 m240i without the High performance package? Thinking about preordering those for track use, but website only suggests 19” as an option when I enter the car details. Looking for 18” because of tire selection.

Unfortunately, we are not offering 18's in your bolt pattern for the pre-order of the ML-10RT's. Make sure to fill out this feedback form ( https://apexwheels.com/pages/stock-notification ) so we know what wheels to help make in the future in specs that are in demand.

I'd love to get in on the pre-order, but how about offering matte black face with a gloss black lip?

That's not a color we are offering right now, make sure to include that in the form so we can keep note. At this moment, we are only offering the lip in the raw, machined finish with a clear coat for the pre-order.

Thanks!

Currently, the pre-order colors are what we will have available for the initial release. We do appreciate getting feedback on what people want for future releases of our wheels, so please make sure to fill out this link so we know what is in demand!

Can I get in on the pre-order and pay for no finish... basically bare and then just get them finished on my own or can I pay apex to do a one off in the finish I mentioned?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer any finish outside of what you can purchase on our site at the time being. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to go around it unless you change the color after you purchase the wheels and get them painted custom to your liking. Thanks!

You may end up wanting to add 3 or 5mm spacers for aesthetics, but I don't think they'll be needed for fitment.

BTW, not sure that I ever posted a set of pix after I had the new wheels with the OEM kicks...

I have been running them all summer and not a thing to worry about, plus I get the occasional compliment.

Thanks again.

Shoutout to cannockwolf and ApexWheels for the friction disk solution to the clicking sound that was present after the APEX VS-5RS install. After installing the friction disks, I can confirm that the sound is completely gone. Also, I only installed them on the front 2 wheels since I only heard the clicking sound when turning the corners in my parking garage. I did tell the tech to clean the hub before he put them on, just in case. The part number as cannockwolf pointed out is 34106884839. You can shop around online, but I got them for about $45 each.

Cannockwolf had the friction rings (part number 34106884839) installed 7/31/2024 and reported 9/03/2024 that the sound returned.

I'd like to ask you a favor to provide an update in several weeks if the friction disks are continuing to work for you or if the sound eventually returns.

I have the APEX VS-5RS wheels and am very interested in knowing.

It doesn't appear the sound reflects an actual issue with the vehicle, instead the forged wheels magnify something that's quite normal into something audible.

It's interesting to note that I found a listing for the friction ring on ebay that included an exploded view BMW diagram from 2021 that indicates the friction ring is installed between the brake disc and the wheel like a wheel spacer would be installed.

The installation directly between the wheel and the disc makes sense to me as it would disrupt the transfer of any vibration from the brake / hub to the wheel.

Interesting. Where did he report the sound coming back since I don't see it in this thread? I'll definitely report back, should the sound come back. It's a very annoying sound, even if it is safe to drive (the most important thing, of course). It sounds a bit like when we'd stick playing cards in the bicycle spokes and you hear it all the more inside a garage. I was also able to hear it while taking an on-ramp but it was a lot more faint. So basically, any time you turn the wheel.

As far as the diagram and the description, here's the installation instructions and that's exactly that I had my tech do.

For BMW's that use multi-piece lightweight rotors there is a known phenomenon where the mating surface between the wheel hub and the rotor hat is not 100% spot on and microscopic movement can occur at slow speeds causing a rattling noise. This noise can typically be heard while maneuvering at slow speeds without the brakes applied. BMW's procedure for the listed vehicles for identifying the source of the noise is as follows:

Remove all wheel bolts from a front wheel and rotate on the hub one bolt hole (wheel rotates, hub/rotor stays stationary) install wheel bolts and torque to specification.
Repeat the procedure on the opposite side
Test drive the vehicle again.
If the noise is no longer present, perform the attached front wheel cleaning and friction ring installation procedure.

Sorry, I provided a text link but it just looked underlined, here is is: text link, Cannockwolf's update is in a different thread.

It looks like MOST people are installing the friction rings between the hub and the disk, NOT between the wheel and the disc.

To me, it seems like providing the dampening between the wheel and the hub / brake disk assembly makes sense as it isolates it completely from potential vibrations.

Imagine the brake disk is grizzly bear #1 and the hub is grizzly bear #2, both bears are chasing you but bear #1 is 50 feet closer.

Having a barrier between you and bear #2 would be nice, but it wouldn't provide much comfort since bear #1 is still going to get you.

Much better to have that barrier between you and bear #1 and bear #2, not just bear #2.

Friction disc placement between the disc and the hub (stopping only bear #2) would still allow any vibration to be amplified between the disc and the wheel, placing it between the disc and the wheel (blocking bear #1 and bear #2) should remediate any such issue.

I would have used mountain lions, but mountain lion #2 would have just leapt over the barrier.
